About Me

EDIT: Currently living in SF. I don't have a couch to offer, but I'd love to take you out exploring.

CURRENT MISSION

seek my fortune, pursue my destiny, ride a motorcycle from Alaska to the southern tip of South America, and take a cruse to Antarctica

ABOUT ME

The US Department of Labor would describe me as long-term unemployed. And as a consultant might say, that's both true and false. True, because I haven't worked since 2012, after I left the financial world of NYC. False, because I spent the past couple of years traveling the world, spending 2 years as a solo traveler through Australia, New Zealand, and twelve other countries in southeast Asia, before spending some time exploring Austin, TX and the States.

After catching startup fever, I've decided to move to San Francisco, to seek my fortune there. I've never been there, don't have a job waiting for me, barely know anyone there. But I'm going to check it out, get a new place, make some new friends, and maybe meet a sweet lass who has also been bitten by the travel bug.

I enjoy man vs. nature outdoor sports - surfing and biking in the summer, snowboarding and hitting the gym in the winter. I prefer having a few intimate friends over many passing acquaintances, hardcovers over e-books, and coffee shops over clubs.

Even though it's a fashion faux pas, socks + sandals are the greatest footwear ever.

PHILOSOPHY

There's this profound quote, on the mysteries of mankind:
- That they get bored of being children, are in a rush to grow up, and then long to be children again.

- That they lose their health to make money and then lose their money to restore their health.

- That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they live neither for the present nor the future.

- That they live as if they will never die, and they die as if they had never lived

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm currently long-term solo traveling, so I'm looking to meet new friends, explore new cities together, and swap some amazing travel stories!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Through couchsurfing, I met up with an absolutely awesome couple from Canada, and hitchhiked with them through Australia's Gold Coast. Couchsurfing meetups have also been surprisingly awesome!

Interests

Cycling from the northernmost point of Japan to the southernmost, surfing the groovy waves off Kuta Lombok, cooking up the best damn Japanese-style curry in the world, falling asleep reading my Kindle, totally failing at stretching during yoga, carving down the snow-covered mountains of Vermont on my snowboard, listening to new friends tell me amazing stories from traveling, and just relaxing at a tranquil rooftop lounge, feeling the wind blowing through my hair, knowing that everything is right in the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

One of the things I miss the most about traveling, other than having my own apartment and home base, is my bookshelf. My bookshelf, stacked full of books, two books deep. Just glancing at the bookshelf is like seeing old friends - books that I enjoyed, books that touched me, books that let me see the world in an entirely new way.

Although it'll never replace physical books, my Kindle is almost a portable bookshelf. Through my Kindle, I recently discovered and read through the Frank Herbert's Dune series.

My favorite movie, now and forever, is My Neighbor Totoro. I've got fond memories of watching and re-watching this movie as a kid, at least once a week, sometimes once a day!

My music tastes all but ensure that I am useless during the music portion of trivia night.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While traveling in Australia, I signed on as the first mate of a catamaran sailing from Sydney to Melbourne, and spent one week blue water sailing, just the captain and me.

I did the Titanic on the bow of the ship as dolphins jumped around me, I spent hours hunched over a bucket fighting off seasickness, I saw the Milky Way as a river of stars through the celestial sea.

It was an experience I'm never going to forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

I make the best curry Japanese-style curry (with my own twist) in the world, honed with 20 years of practice. My grilled burgers are also pretty fucking amazing. I suppose I should also mention that I speak 6 languages?
