About Me

I am a very energetic young 58 year old woman with two grown children, three grandsons, and one granddaughter. I am a residential designer and focus on implementing green building practices. I support buying local, urban farming, and buy from mom and pop businesses whenever possible.
I love to travel and do mission work related to construction work. In 2016 I rode about 2000 miles across America. My theme was: Americans are still friendly.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing will serve several purposes for me. It will make my bike ride more affordable. It will provide me with endless opportunities to learn about our wonderful nation from the most real perspective I can imagine, the locals. And I am sure that Couchsurfing will prove to all that Americans are still friendly. (I accomplished these goals)
It is a great way to save money, meet people and do things I would probably not know to do if travelling the conventional way.

Interests

Art, music, dancing, reading, writing a book, sports, nature, the outdoors, spirituality, learning about different cultures, healthy living lifestyles, Ethnic Foods, but mostly vegetarian, some fish and chicken... Making furniture or anything in a wood working shop. Mission work= Diaster work related to residential housing, or abroad working with building churches and daycare centers . One day I would like to help with water issues in third world countries.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie is The Sound Of Music. I love musicals, comedy and historical drama. I do not like violent movies or TV in general. I love classical, celtic, folk, some jazz, 60s,70s, and 80s rock n roll, bluegrass and any live music performance.
My favorite authors are Jim Rohn,Nicholas Sparks, Dick Francis, Wilbur Smith, and Ken Follet. I love self help books, spiritual books and historical novels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had the privelege of designing and help build a home in Rice Virginia for the TV show "Extreme Makeover" which aired in 2008.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach people how to do arts and crafts. I have coached basketball, soccer, and field hockey. I currently officiate field hockey and get to travel around the US doing that.
I would love to learn how to cook foods from different regions of the country. I would like to learn some things from carpenters, craftsmen, and farmers.
I would love to exchange knowledge with anyone on any of the above mentioned topics = art, music, literature, history, culture, food preparation, design and construction methods ( I am writing a book about the design build process for residential homes)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can do some gardening or landscaping. I can do small projects earound the home such as fix a door, a small paint job. I could cook a meal. I could do some light housekeeping or help organize a space to facilitate better use of space.

I am hearing impaired, but can communicate very effectively when I know that I am being spoken to.
