About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Work out what to do with my life

ABOUT ME

Friendly, calm (generally..) and open-minded. I love travelling, especially if it involves hitchhiking and couchsurfing. Social libertarian leftist. Often pensive, sometimes introverted. But really you'll have to meet me and discover for yourself :)

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surf, host, meet, explore, discover, laugh, create...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first discovered Couchsurfing when I was traveling around Europe in 2009. I was trying to get from Munich to Vienna, and eventually got there via the ridesharing website Mitfahrgelegenheit. The people I mitfahr-ed with were so nice that they offered to host me in Vienna, and I had an amazing weekend with them. I decided that I wanted all my weekends to be like this, and that's when my host Cosima mentioned Couchsurfing... the rest is history. I have surfed all over Europe and hosted in London, Sheffield and Vienna, met so many amazing people and had so many incredible experiences thanks to CS. Being a Couchsurfer has definitely been a life-changing experience for me.

Interests

Pretty much everything interests me. Languages, travel, films, literature, music, art (http://jono4.deviantart.com), politics... and of course the mighty Spurs! (That is the football team Tottenham Hotspur. I love football, both playing and watching, even though I am the worst football player of all time by quite a long way.)

Music, Movies & Books

Films: My favourite directors include Krzysztof Kieslowski, Milos Forman, Andrei Tarkovsky, Richard Linklater, Wes Andersen, Coen Brothers, Jean-Pierre Melville and Mike Leigh.

Music: All kinds, folk, electronic, post-rock, jazz, hip-hop, classical, some rock and indie. My favourite artists include Bonobo, Fourtet, Floex, Funki Porcini, Dels, Doseone, Aesop Rock, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Mogwai, This Will Destroy You, Explosions in the Sky, Andrew Bird, Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Belle and Sebastian, Bartok, Beethoven, Chopin, .. the list goes on...

Books: Many, many... Pushkin, Gogol, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Bulgakov, Bely, Kundera, Skvorecky, Hemingway, Kafka (and his critics), Hesse, Daniel Kehlmann, Jonathan Coe, Nick Hornby, Donna Tartt, Carson McCullers, Murakami, Kerouac....

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I ran a marathon in 2008. You might not believe it to look at me now!

The traveling I did in 2009 was also pretty amazing, particularly hitching all around Iceland in the spring, then all the way from Oslo to the north of Norway and back to London through Finland, the Baltic, Poland and Germany. All in all, six months of priceless memories!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to hitchhike and skills for traveling on an ultra tight budget. I can teach basic German, Russian and Czech and help you improve your English.

I'm interested in people showing me their own style of artwork, indeed any kind of art, music, literature you make...
