About Me

Try to find myself and indulge in European culture!

I am Jooyoung Ahh. I am from Seoul, the capital of South Korea. I am a student in Korea University studying psychology and international relations. I am now in University of Sussex in Brighton, UK as an exchange student also studying psychology and international relations. Both majors really interest me. I like knowing about people, groups and thier mind mechanisms. Additionally I love how the world goes around and the history of the world. It gives me the feeling that I am getting involved with the world.

I am open-minded. I dislike judging people just by other people's thoughts or prejudice. I have a basic trust in other people. I am a person who can adjust well to different kinds of people. I try to understand other people.

I am more like width over depth. I like to have new experience. Traveling is one way of making new experience to me. Also I chose to come to UK as an exchange student to do so. After coming here, I try to have different kinds of experience as well like joining ukulele society, photograph society, having parties and going out with friends. I am also thinking of volunteering from the next term.

I am diligent and make efforts to achieve what I want to do. I tried to do my best in my situation. This has brought me to UK and I am sure that I will become a better person in the future.

I am well-organised and clean. There is no need to worry about messing up!

Be positive! Be bright!
Do your best in the situation!
Always give thanks!
Try to truly enjoy every moment!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have heard from a lot of friends that it was really amazing and meaningful experience to meet new local people there and hear from them through CS. I have seen so many friends who truly enjoyed the CS and made wonderful memories with the hosts. In addition, I love to meet local people there and hear from them, when I travel around. Not only can I experience local culture and meet new people, but also I can travel through CS. This is the perfect and idealistic way to travel! Now I am really looking forward to CS! :)

I have not experienced couch surfing yet, but I have heard so many good things about CS from friends. I am really excited about CS. At the moment, I am living in school accomodation, so I cannot host couch surfers. However, I love meeting new people and happily willing to show the campus and Brighton! A coffee break or Pub sounds perfect to me!

I love meeting people, talking to people and making memories with people. The more, the merrier.

I love traveling around and experiencing new things. I have travelled quite a lot of countries. I have been to Japan, China, the US, France and the UK. I also travelled around South Korea a lot. There is a system in Korea which enables you to take all the trains within a week for certain amount of money like eurail pass. I went on a backpacking trip with my best friend in Korea and visited 5 different cities in the South. This was not easy, but I learned a lot, and especially got to love my own country and the beauty of Korea. Also I met my friends who lived in the cities on the trip and had so much fun. Traveling makes me see wonderful things that I didn't know, think about myself, and broaden my sights.

I love listening to music, watching movies, watching dramas and reading books. These all enable me to enjoy my life more and learn about life more, even though I don't necessarily experience.

I like to write down to keep track of memories that I cherish.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love 'Love actually.' Whenever I see the movie, it always makes my heart warm. It always reminds me that the world is a warm place where love is all around. I love every couple in the movie. They make me want to love other people. My favorite scene is when every couple meet each other in the airport which is the last and the famous scene as well. People not only say goodbye to each other at the airport, but also people meet again and love each other at the airport! As in the film, people are all linked and are born to love and beloved.

I like 'Pride and Prejudice.' I read the book before, and I love both the book and the movie. It is based on the time when women's objective of life was to get married to rich guys. In the book, the main character 'Elizabeth' is very confident of herself and tries to find a partner who really loves her, not a person who wants to get married just because he needs a wife. I really love the author Jane Austine's pioneering thoughts as well as Elizabeth's confidence and thoughtfulness. In addition, in film, I was satisfied with the storyline, beautiful sceneries and appropriate customs.

My favorite band is 'Maroon 5.' Their songs are attractive and addictive. However, I basically love pop and almost all the genres. I love Whitney Houston, Jason Mraz, Duffy, Mariah Carey and so many others. I am also open to music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I have done is to come to UK as an exchange student and live here for a year. It is my first time living away from my parents and close friends. Everything is new and not easy. There are so many things to decide by myself and taking care of myself. However, I am learning a lot. I really thank my parents and my friends. I love experiencing new culture. I love the opportunity to travel around the Europe so easily and conveniently. I am sure that all these experiences are worth it and help me grow and become a better person.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach Korean of course. I have taught many students in Korea including a kid who had a mental disability as a volunteer. Also I am teaching Korean to one British girl who is interested in learning Korean and the culture. I can let you know about the brief Korean history as well ;)

Since I have traveled a lot, I can tell you about all the places I have visited. I have visited both Eastern and Western countries. I can share all the trips and experiences I have.

I love cooking with friends. I am not a great cook, but I love cooking Korean food as well as other countries' food. It would be awesome to cook foods with you.
