About Me

We accept volunteers all year round - Come visit us and experience the real Africa!

Child Hope is a non profit, self funded organisation rescuing street children and helping put them back into education.

We pride ourselves on empowering women, educating the community on the importance of birth control, HIV/AIDs awareness and giving local children access to an education.

We believe that education is the right of every child - please help us continue to provide this.

The children that live with us at our orphanage are aged between 2-18yrs and they each have their own unique story. Many of them have suffered abuse, malnourishment and have even lived on the streets before being taken in by Child Hope. With your help we hope to provide them with a future very different to that of their past.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We are on CS as a way of inviting surfers and volunteers to visit us and experience a true African home stay. You can stay as long as you wish if you would like to exchange ideas, time and support in exchange for free local food and accommodation.

(We hope for a minimum of 5 hours volunteering per day in exchange for free local vegetarian food and accommodation).

We understand that it is against CS policy but if you are able, we ask for a $5 per day donation in conjunction with the work to help with costs associated with hosting you.

Interests

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us with the following:

*Construction - We are in the beginning phase of building a larger orphanage. Are you able to help us out?

*Teaching English and helping with homework - We have over 30 children that are all desperate to improve their English speaking skills, your simple conversation will help them more than you may realise.

*Fund Raising - Child hope relies heavily on the donation and sponsorship of others to care for the orphans, we are currently in need of some assistance with our social media and crowd funding accounts. A little time and enthusiasm for what you will see as a worthy cause will help us even after you´ve left.

*Help with our art projects - are you creative? We´d love some fresh ideas on items that the girls can make to sell at our local market.

*Computer Skills - are you able to teach some of our teenagers how to use computers? They would love to learn!

*Basic Horticulture - Help us grow our own food!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Founding this organisation and building a refuge for abused or homeless children is a daily struggle but one that I can truly feel proud of.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to teach our guests some of our local dialect, show them around our local town and help with organising day trips. You are also welcome to join us in the kitchen and learn how to cook local Ugandan dishes.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share the story of our foundation. Our children will share their time and love.

Being the second largest city in Uganda yet maintaining a small town feel Jinja has established itself as East Africa´s centre for adventure tourism.

Take a ride into Jinja (30 minutes by local bus) and visit some of the well known sights, we want you to enjoy our country to the fullest so we are happy to help organise tours with local operators if you wish.

*The Source of the Nile - kayak it, white water raft it, bungee jump over it or simply walk alongside the longest river in Africa.

*Bujagali Falls - located 10kms along the Nile river, enjoy spectacular scenery and white water rafting.

*Itanda Falls - located 18kms NW on the Nile river, a great spot for a weekend camping trip.

*Bike or ATV tours through the bush with an experienced guide.

*Spend the weekend visiting the famous Gorillas of Uganda, our national treasure.

*Take a safari into one of the many national parks and see Lions, Hippos, Elephants, Giraffes amongst others all in the wild.
