About Me
Hi! We are Jorge and Mayra, a Colombian couple living in the Amazon.
I’m an architect focused on Amazonian architecture, community projects, and education. Mayra is a psychologist working in educational and community wellbeing.
We love learning from different cultures, sharing stories, cooking, and showing visitors what life in the Amazon is like. Our home is simple, peaceful, and always open to meaningful conversations.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
On our upcoming trip to Paris and Madrid, we hope to meet locals who can share their everyday perspective, hidden corners of the city, and good conversations.
Living in the Amazon has taught us the value of hospitality and cultural exchange, and we love the idea of connecting with others who enjoy learning from different ways of living. We’re grateful for anyone willing to share their home, their stories, and a bit of their city with us.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I helped design and build a traditional maloca—an Indigenous communal house—together with communities from the northeastern Colombian Amazon. It was a collective process shaped by ancestral knowledge, storytelling, and many days of shared work in the forest. It completely changed the way I understand architecture, territory, and community.
Teach, Learn, Share
I teach architecture with a strong territorial focus, working to help students understand how design can serve people, communities, and the land. Living in the Amazon has shown me that architecture is not just about buildings, but about relationships, culture, and care.
I love sharing what I’ve learned from working with Indigenous communities, and I’m always excited to learn from others—whether it’s a new perspective, a local custom, or a different way of seeing the world.
More than anything, I enjoy exchanging ideas through conversation, cooking together, and discovering how people build their own sense of place.
