About Me

A guy fascinated by the world and the people in it. Wants to know it all, learn it all, see it all.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet new people, see new places, and gain a broader perspective of this pale blue dot.

Interests

I am a movie-lover, and I can talk film and TV with you all day long. Nights, too. I play some guitar. I act and improvise. I read a whole bunch, but not as much as I'd like to. I like comedy, languages, people, photography, and just being elsewhere.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love so many sounds. The blues, jazz, alt rock, hip hop...

Lost in Translation is probably my favorite movie. I really liked Whiplash recently. And I watch GoT, Mad Men, Broad City, and more as far as TV goes.

Just read Station Eleven. Great book. My favorite author nowadays is George Saunders, especially his collection of short stories "In Persuasion Nation". Also dig James Joyce, Hemingway, Garcia Marquez, and a bunch of other little things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The sound of seals from San Francisco's Telegraph Hill as the sun rises is mesmerizing.

Swam with two beautiful sea turtles in Honolulu.

Spent New Year's on the waterfront in Brooklyn, looking at Manhattan's many firework displays.

Took a train trip from San Antonio to New York through New Orleans and back through Chicago on my own. I will always cherish it.

If you're into celebs, I've photographed and shaken hands with Channing Tatum, Rob Riggle, Stephen Colbert, Senator John Cornyn, Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes, Demetri Martin, Oscar Isaac.

I once gave Sean Lennon directions in his own city.

On a visit to our college newsroom, the late Media Decoder David Carr of the NYTimes called some of my work at The Daily Texan "genius".

I moved to New York cold last summer, and I've been carving a home there ever since.

I just met photographer Elliot Erwitt, and since I was kneeling when I met him I proposed.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can cook up some mean stuff. And I have some film skills, if you're interested in learning more!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories. I have so much I could share with an interested host. I can also share silence well, I promise! Whatever floats your boat/yacht/bathtub.
