About Me

Hello! I am Jo, 21, currently studying Illustration in Edinburgh. Generally speaking, I am a sociable and friendly person (as far as I can tell), am always keen to make new acquaintances and am only occasionally hindered by my pinch of British awkwardness and sprinkle of German inhibition. If i sound nonsensical, it is most likely misplaced sarcasm. I am both a cat and dog person and my fate line is split, at least according to a friend of mine who once read a book on palmistry he found at a car boot sale.
I am reliable and trustworthy, even though my flatmate remains convinced I steal her pesto (lies and libel).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As mentioned, I enjoy meeting people. Staying with somebody who actually knows a place is so much more rewarding than the sometimes a little impersonal hostelling option.

Interests

As an Illustration student, I spent a considerable amount of time drawing - I am one of those blue-eyed idiots trying to turn their hobby into a career.
Aside from that, i mainly read. I enjoy Jung and Nietzsche, am very keen on Marquez and Will Self, and still have a serious soft spot for my childhood favorites, Roald Dahl and Phillip Pullman. I sometimes read aloud when I am alone because my attention span can be lamentable and I have a latent wish to be a child again.
I really like cooking, mostly vegetarian, preferably for friends. There is something very satisfying about bribing your way into people's hearts with a meal.
Otherwise, I go swimming, go cycling and get lost in mountains every once in a while; I love watching films and think we are basically doomed (but that's okay).

Music, Movies, and Books

I like classical music, particularly Mahler, like Folk and Frank Zappa, Techno when in Berlin, Happy Mondays and The Stranglers for cheerful days and Pink Floyd when the end is nigh.

Aside from the aforementioned: Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats was definitely T.S. Eliot's most profound work.

When it comes to films, I like Mulholland Drive, the Holy Mountain, the Lobster and anything by Kubrick. I like Chris Morris. My guilty pleasures are Cronenberg and Rupaul's drag race.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have so far survived every single day I have been alive without dying.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook for you, do a drawing of your dog and tell you all of my favorite German words.
