About Me

I'm a writer/poet living in Berlin, hoping to make some little trips around Europe before the year is out. At the moment, my work (writing for an environment NGO) is portable, so I was thinking I could use this moment of relative freedom to see the prettier parts of the continent, and meet some nice people too.

I also sometimes play music, mostly drums and guitar. Taking photos is a more recent hobby of mine, for which I have been lucky to have some success.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

All my life I have shared my couch, and in turn have shared the couches of others. I am a true believer in Couchsurfing.

Music, Movies, and Books

The feeling I have looking at this prompt is like being in front of Youtube and someone asking me to quickly put on a song- the mind goes blank, but I will try.

Movies: Withnail and I, Wild Strawberries, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Frances Ha, Killers of the Flower Moon, Ghostworld, Ponyo, Her, A Cinderella Story (yeah a guilty pleasure), Twenty Thousand Species of Bees

Music: Anything with sincerity (honestly I think that's the main thing I like in music)

Authors: Lao-Tzu, Camus, Mary Oliver, Allen Ginsberg, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Philip Larkin, Sylvia Plath, Kae Tempest, Akutagawa, Italo Calvino, John Fante, Kurt Vonnegut

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once saw the solstice sun rise out of the sea, sitting on a cliff beside two good old friends. The intense beauty of it is completely beyond the reach of words to express.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my poetry (even give a copy of my book), and can help with any proofreading or editing that might need to be done by my host. I also like taking portraits with my analogue camera, if any prospective host would like to have a sweet shot of themselves (I especially like portraits taken in the evening light).

What I Can Share with Hosts

According to my previous dinner guests, I'm a pretty good cook, and I would be delighted to provide a meal in return for a place to sleep. Aside from this, I try to be interesting as often as possible.
