About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see the world!

ABOUT ME

Exploring, learning, and generally having a great time is my way of life. I enjoy meeting new people, trying new things, and experiencing the vast wonders of different cultures. Food, fossils, and fishing!

PHILOSOPHY

Live life every day to its fullest, and try to do some good for my fellow human beings along the way :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

A little over two years ago my girlfriend Katherine introduced me to Couchsurfing, and since then we have hosted many people from all over the world at our house. Meeting new people and hearing about their respective homelands has been an educational and extremely gratifying experience. After two years of hosting people, we decided its time to go traveling ourselves! Once I'm done with our little trip around the world, I'll once again open my house up to fellow travelers in need of a place to stay.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Meeting people from so many different parts of my own country and from countries around the world has been a wonderful experience, and greatly influenced my own desire to go traveling. So far I've only met amazing people through CS and I'm sure it will continue on for many years. I absolutely love both hosting and surfing and I hope to stay with many more people from all over the world. Hopefully some of the people I meet along my travels will one day be able to come visit my home in California.

Interests

My interests vary quite a bit.

I am first and foremost a naturalist, but I also love visiting new cites, seeing live music, reading cheesy science fiction books, meeting new people, and generally having fun.

On the naturalist side, I enjoy paleontology (specifically the study of fossil plants and fish), fishing, mushroom hunting, snorkeling, hiking, herpetology, entomology, geology, and simply visiting the worlds natural wonders. I'm a science nerd! :D

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm not a huge movie buff, but I do enjoy the occasional cheesy action movie, romance, and even a few cartoons.

Music wise, I really have a wide range of what I like. I'm not huge on pop music, but I'll give anything a chance and can honestly find some enjoyment in most anything.

Books...how to even start? I love science fiction, fantasy, mystery, pop culture books, terrible action books I pick up at the airport, silly romance novels, even comic books. However, my absolute favorites are classic science fiction authors, Clark, Heinlein, Lem, Asimov, Zelazny, Wells, Bradbury, and especially Lovecraft.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been to every state in the USA, and have collected fossils from most of them. I've spent over 2 years of my life living in a tent on the beaches of Mexico, mostly living off of what I would catch fishing or diving. I have found many, many fossil shark teeth, some of which are bigger than my hand, and I have some big hands! Waking up with a herd of sheep on a beach in Scotland, seeing the sun rise over the sea of Cortez, seeing albacore tuna feeding from horizon to horizon...

Teach, Learn, Share

I can guarantee that I am able to teach almost everyone I meet a few things about my profession of choice, paleontology. I have been practicing paleontology for most of my life, having been raised by a pair of amateur paleontologists. I have been collecting fossils in the field since I was three years old, and now I'm 27, so I have quite a few years experience! I would be happy to share the knowledge I've gained with anyone who cares to listen to me talk fossil nerd stuff :P

I'm also a pretty good fisherman and would be happy to give anyone who's interested a few quick pointers :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook, and would be happy to cook up some good stuff! I really like cooking seafood, but since I've been on the road I have learned a lot of vegan and vegetarian dishes too, and I am game to try to cook up most anything :)

Other than that I hunt mushrooms, collect edible and medicinal plants, and harvest shellfish from along the seashore and would be happy to share my knowledge about these fun activities.
