Hello couch surfing community!

My name is Josh Pitta, I'm an incoming student at UC San Diego studying Biological Anthropology, and I currently live in Hollywood.

I'm planning a fairly extensive train ride across the United States at the end of August, and I'm looking for places to stay and people to meet in the various cities I'll be visiting. My trip is going to take me from LA to Portland to Seattle to Chicago to New York to Philadelphia to Washington DC. Even if we won't be able to surf together, I'm open to advice on places to do and things to see in those cities.

I'm also a really open-minded individual. I like to ask more questions than I answer, so if you host me, I'm definitely the kinda surfer that likes to get to know his hosts. And occasionally switch from 1st to 3rd person mid-sentence.

I don't travel as much as I want to. This trip I'm taking is hopefully my first step into doing more and more travel through out my time in college, and I hope couch surfing will be a gateway to not only travel more, but have the opportunity to meet awesome, interesting people.

Intereses

My main interest, above all else, is film. I want to be a screenwriter and director. I've had the opportunity to practice both of my passions a few times in the short film format, and my experiences have confirmed my love for it. I try to watch as many films as I can, so if we get to that topic of conversation and you mention a film that really spoke to you personally and I haven't seen it, you best believe I'll be down for a movie night.

My other interests include surfing, photography, drumming, football, and pretty much any creative art. I am also very active. Exercise is important to me. I do boxing and muy Thai, and my favorite sport is crew having rowed in Orange County. I also love dancing (I'm a fairly decent hip hop dancer). I'm also interested in getting into Parkour, Rock Climbing, and SCUBA Diving while in college.

I'm also really into the stories people have to tell. I'm curious about what people have done, where they've been, what they want, and what their worldview is.

Música, películas y libros

Music: Mumford and Sons, Queen, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, skrillex, and admittedly I have a soft spot for Disney songs.

Books: Into the Wild is definitely my favorite book of all time, but some of my other favorites include Ready Player One, The Martian, Harry Potter, Hamlet, and Catcher in the Rye.

Movies/TV: My favorite film of all time is King Vidor's The Crowd. This film, I think, embodies all the reasons I love film. Here's a film that came out 88 years ago in 1928 that still packs the same emotional punch to today's audience as it did to audiences back then. It is still one of 3 movies I've ever seen that have made me cry. In case you're wondering, the other two are Toy Story 3 and Land Before Time.

I can lend you my ears. I think the biggest lesson I've learned since I started living on my own in a city like Los Angeles is how wonderful it is to meet a person who actually listens to what you have to say. Many pretend to listen or go through the motions of a conversation, but not many actually just listen and let you talk and then try to dive deep into what you want to communicate or express. So I offer you a patient, calm, and empathetic ear that is more than eager to listen to you and learn as much about you as you're willing to share.

I'm also very clean, organized, and quiet. I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, and I only drink socially. I grew up in a very strict Filipino home (Okay, half-Filipino home), so you don't have to tell me twice about cleaning up after myself.
