Sobre mí

Hi! I’m a current PhD student in mathematics who loves to travel! I’m quite new to Couchsurfing, but the idea is incredibly cool, and I can’t wait to explore it more! I love to dance tango, to eat, to listen to new music, to discuss big ideas, and to learn more about how people live their lives across the globe. Moreover, I love what I do for work!

Música, películas y libros

I listen to everything under the sun, and am a firm believer that every form of music has something to offer, regardless of personal preference. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of jazz (esp. Coltrane, Mingus, and Kamasi Washington), rap (esp. Nas, Pharcyde, and Busdriver), electronic (esp. Aphex Twin, Galaxy 2 Galaxy, and DJ Rashad), and tango (I’ve been recently attempting to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of all the major orquestas, but perennial favorites include D’Arienzo, Pugliese, and Calo).

I read a decent amount of poetry, and have recently been pretty taken with the Russian futurists and the works of Elizabeth Bishop. I also read loads of graphic novels, with Alan Moore being a favorite.

I don’t watch too many films these days, but the work of Hayao Miyazaki holds a special place in my heart.

Algo increíble que he hecho

When I was in undergrad, I, along with some of my friends, transformed the campus chapel into a giant game space in which people had to listen for whispers and echoes to reconstruct a hidden message.

That is probably tied with scaling mount Rishiri in northern Hokkaido; a feat for me due to my fear of heights!

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I can share with hosts a generally positive attitude towards the world. More practically, I can give people recommendations for food and activities in Los Angeles, Chicago, NYC, Cambridge (UK), and (to a lesser extent) Paris. If people are interested, I can communicate the basics of tango, though I certainly wouldn’t call myself an expert by any means...
