I am from Southern California . I am a researcher whose investigations take place at the intersection of geometry, neuroscience, and machine learning. My lifestyle is a bit more nomadic than the usual scientist. And my travels tend to be more about the challenge of adaptation rather than comfort. But, I’m really looking to get outside the American Bubble. To see what the world has to show. What stories and perspectives do other peoples have?

I wanted to really talk to some locals. I think my previous travels have really reinforced that people not destinations are the most important thing when traveling. The reason is because they have lived this particular reality and building a personal bond opens up the opportunity to really dive into details and challenge ones beliefs within a comfortable environment. Another consequence of being comfortable enough to open up is to exchange different styles of humor. It's really interesting to discover the type of humor associated to a particular country. Some are very direct.

I have hitchhiked from San Diego, California to Vancouver, Canada. During this adventure up the "Great One", Pacific Coast Highway, I slept in two renovated school buses and under the mother-Seqouias. I also got a hitch from a hippie bus with 10 "On the Road" individuals. I definitely learned to trust the road and people.

I've learned a bit of native american history and the United States from a Chicano perspective. This is different from the traditional "Yankee" stories. One thing I think makes me someone worth accepting as a guest is my curiosity. I think everyone has some expertise, some fascination, a life story which we can all learn from.
