About Me

I am someone who has spent the last few years just kind of working on myself, trying to be better at actually doing and finishing the things that I want to get done. I recently finished grad school, I'm closing to finishing the first draft of a novel and working some other writing projects, teaching myself to paint and photography, got back into rock climbing after being away from it for five years.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have had this trip planned, in some form or another for more than ten years, and it's finally time to do it. I'll be schlepping it any way I can from Italy to Israel to India to Indonesia - all the I's, apparently. And meeting people along the way ought to be one of the highlites.

Interests

A little bit of a lot of things. Anything with a philosophical kernel hooks and reels me in, which can span a large swath of the arts and sciences. So, if it has something to teach me about life, knowledge (epistemology), how people communicate, exchange, or connect, I'm always fascinated by it. This is likely because I'm fairly introverted and whatever helps stay connected to other human beings is always grounding and appreciated. In general though, I trying now to rein-in my interests, because focusing on too much makes it far more difficult to learn any one thing deeply.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once folded a thousand paper cranes as gift to an ex-girlfriend, and created this fantastic hanging mural out of bamboo to hold them all. It took me eleven months.

She gave them back after we broke up. Now they hang in the school library at one of my alma maters.

Teach, Learn, Share

Religion and philosophy are my primary wheel-house. I also know a lot about fiction, writing/english, bartending, sushi, retro and modern video games (being an avid collector), painting, 90s American hip-hop.

How many of these anyone else needs help learning though, is questionable. But hey, if you really want someone to talk philosophy, religion, Legend of Zelda, or Mos Def and Outkast with, I could be that person.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can absolutely help with cleaning, cooking, lower level home maintenance/contract work (I've done some roofing, sanding and varnishing wood furniture, painting, repairing drywall, fixed toilets, stuff like that. Nothing too extreme).

I'm getting into photography and if you need some decent quality photos for your business website, I may be able to help. Open to learning in order to assist a host in other things, if you need an extra person to get something done.

I can also mix quality cocktails and make sushi.
