About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To couch surf and meet lots of new people!

ABOUT ME

I thought I'd start with a list of things I value:

Compassion, humility, honesty, generosity, curiosity, rationality, fun, humour, friendship, love, adventure, intimacy, expression.. to name a few!

I am quite a "deep" thinker. I've also been accused on a few occasions by my family as thinking "too much" lol. I love to talk (love it so much!). I enjoy sharing and just enjoying the moment. I also love joking around possibly more than anything in the world. I'm a certified full-blown laughter addict!

I try my hardest to be non-judgemental. I prefer to always be calm with people, and aiming to be that way definitely helps me when debating. So yeah, I like a good debate, but when it becomes people talking *at* each other as opposed to listening and working together to find the truth, then I don't like it. Nor do I think it really serves much purpose as both people usually end up walking away from it with unchanged minds.

I make experimental electronic/dance music and I like to draw as well (usually trippy abstract doodles, which is how I like my music). I feel like I have too many hobbies and interests sometimes, and I get a bit overwhelmed because I don't know what to focus on. Music though is a pretty constant thing. That and comedy and talking about politics and philosophy and psychology and sociology. The world is too interesting dammit!

PHILOSOPHY

I am an open-minded thinker who tries to be as compassionate and as humble as possible. I am aware of my own capacity to automatically distort reality, but it is a constant aim of mine to embody my values as much as possible.

For one, I don't want to think that I'm better than anyone else. I am largely deterministic in how I view the world, and can accept that it is not rational for me to judge and condemn others; considering the fact that if I were born in their shoes, then I'd probably have turned out the exact same. Instead I prefer to focus on behaviour and traits etc. In short: I don't think I am intrinsically better or worse than anyone.

I am fond of the humanist philosophy. I quite strongly dislike the idea that people need to be punished in order to learn to behave more altruistically. I love being peaceful. I love being curious about people and the world. I love to be honest and real.

Recently I've been working on accepting myself even when others reject me. It's been a huge struggle in my life fighting against overly depending on the approval of others. I really want to liberate myself from that as much as possible.

Current philosophical interests are: The philosophies of Albert Ellis, and Marx

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm more of a film person as opposed to a book person. I've have too many favourites to mention. Just too too many. OK one I will say is Fight Club because I've seen it more times than any other. That film is absolute perfection. I could write a list the size of a small book full of recommendations though :) Although I could definitely do with seeing more older ones, and foreign ones too!

As for music, I'm an experimental electronica fanatic (or "IDM", even though I hate that label!"). My greatest influence is definitely Aphex and just Rephlex in general really. I love acid! (for those who don't know, it's a genre of music, not a drug :P)

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a lot of random IT knowledge (web, software). I have some theoretical music knowledge and quite a lot of practical knowledge of making electronic music. I can cook. I know some stuff about nutrition and exercise. I know about some psychological stuff, also politics, and sociology.
