Music, Movies, and Books

Film--Agnes Varda is my fav, Fellini, Buster Keaton, Kurosawa especially "Dreams"..."The Color of Pomegranates", some of the French New Wave, a lot of the Czech New Wave--"Daisies" and "Valerie and Her Week of Wonders"..."The Tin Drum", "Dancer in the Dark", "Chinatown", "Like Water for Chocolate"....I could go on and on. Cinema is very close to my heart.

Music---Field Recordings from various countries--Sublime Frequencies, Smithsonian Collections and Ian Nagowski from Baltimore put out the best stuff in this "genre". Indonesian gamelan, French Ye-ye (Francoise Hardy!!!), Ethiopian music as presented through the various volumes of Ethiopiques, also new American Folk like Diane Cluck, Bonnie Prince Billy, Joanna Newsom....I've been listening to Cat Power, Fleetwood Mac and Joni Mitchell a tremendous amount lately. Music is a big, beautiful consuming passion...

Books---currently reading Murakami. In the past spent time with Italo Calvino, Gaston Bachelard, maybe too much art theory, Virginia Woolf, Paulo Coelho.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to do circus tricks on a unicycle. I've seen big mama cows give birth multiple times.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know where the secret gems of culture and beauty are in my city---the underground music shows and art galleries, the hole in the wall amazing restaurants. I know the best bicycle routes, the vibe of every park, I know where we can get really good ice cream. I can introduce you to the friendly, inclusive art scene that exists in Philadelphia and show you my favorite murals/street art. I would love to do all of these things in your city.
