Hi! My name is Joy Suh, and I'm always really intimidated by the prospect of having to write an "About Me" section... But here goes nothing!

I'm a Korean-American girl, born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in little ol' Enid, Oklahoma. Currently, I am attending a small liberal arts school (Grinnell College) in Iowa, because I was looking to experience something new and exciting - like Iowa *haha* (totally kidding Iowa is great). I'm an intended biochemistry major, a huge environmentalist, a HUGE-ER nerd, a vegan, a pun-loving dork, and just a normal girl trying to discover who I am~

A few fun facts about me:
1. I LOVE trying all kinds of new foods (as long as it's vegan of course).
2. I could talk to you about my love for "Avatar: The Last Airbender" for probably 18398263 hours.
3. Some of my other favorite TV shows are Friends, Scrubs, Spongebob, Family Guy, and Rick & Morty. My favorite movies include 500 Days of Summer, 21 Jump Street, and The Breakfast Club (although I could talk about a million movies I love).
4. I am the daughter of two extremely kind, loving parents, and I am forever grateful for the life they have given me. My parents are small business owners who have never had a day off - all for me and my brother.
5. I have an older brother too! He is two years older than me, and I really really hope he never reads this, because in many ways, he is my hero, my role-model, and the one person I know I can always trust (but I'll probably never tell him this ^.^).
6. I LOVE ANIMALS, and I want nothing more than to hug 14 puppies right now.
7. I can whistle like a bird.
8. I love to sing, but I sound like a whale giving birth.
9. I'm very liberal and progressive, but I always respect other people's political views (given that they also respect mine, of course).
10. Someday, I hope that I can sit in a rocking chair, sip a glass of wine, and talk with someone about all the amazing times I had when I was young and stupid.
11. My favorite number is 11.
12. I am a boss at Super Smash Brothers.
13. I'm still learning about myself and discovering who I am, so I'll be sure to update this as I go :)

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I'm Couchsurfing for various reasons, but the main one is that I want to experience new places from more than just a superficial, touristic point of view. I don't want to stay at a fancy hotel and eat over-priced food after traveling around all day going to Trip-Advisor hot spots. I want to experience a new place from the perspective of the locals - from the perspective of other interesting human beings. I believe that traveling should not be checking off a list of monuments to see. To me, traveling is truly be about meeting new people, experiencing a new culture, and making unforgettable memories.
