To be mistaken for a native French speaker...
ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Patrick! I live in Houston and love showing its hidden treasures to folks from out of town. I'm a lawyer and a classical musician. In my spare time, I do yoga, write screenplays, and study foreign languages. I understand and speak Spanish and French just fine. I am at the point where I can understand some Serbian, and say basic things. And I am just beginning the journey into German.
My partner and I live in the Upper Kirby part of town, where it's possible to actually walk to nearby shops and restaurants. (A rare achievement in Houston!) We have a dog who is part muppet.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have hosted someone from out of town, and I've met a couple people over Facebook who are part of the Couchsurfing community. I love meeting new people, and I would love any opportunity to practice other languages or learn something new.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I hosted! And learned how to make wiener schnitzel!
Interests
I'm a classical musician. I sing with the Houston Symphony, but I also play several instruments (flute, clarinet, french horn and piano to name a few). I play World of Warcraft and watch Netflix more than is healthy for any single human being. I go to yoga 4-6 times a week, and will happily take you along with me!

Music, Movies, and Books
I have a soft spot for Joni Mitchell and I have a compulsion to dance to Janelle Monae. I'll watch just about any movie so long as it isn't about AIDS or the Holocaust (too sad!). I love any book that can transport me to another world. Anna Funder's "Stasiland"; Tolkien's accounts of Middle Earth; Kafka's dystopian nightmares; Maupin's "Tales of the City" - anything that lets me take a tiny little vacation inside my head without ever leaving my comfy armchair. Or something I can take on vacation with me - TWO vacations at once!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Some of my happiest memories involve travel: sitting on the bluffs, watching the sun set behind Mont Saint-Michel; reclining under the Milky Way, watching the Perseid meteor shower overhead in the pitch black desert night in Big Bend National Park; swallowing my fear and letting go of my anxiety while white water rafting on the New River in West Virginia.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm trying to learn Serbian and German, and have studied Spanish and French quite a bit. I would love opportunities to learn all those languages better. I would also love the opportunity to teach people about my language, English. And I'm happy to teach you how to cook Indian food! I'd also love the opportunity to collaborate with other classical musicians while traveling! I sing (tenor) as well as play the flute (and several other instruments too!).
