About Me

Hi! My name is Juan, I’m originally from Itagüí, Antioquia, Colombia.
If you are looking for a host, please go to the MyHome section.

I started traveling around 14 or 15 years old while touring different parts of Colombia to play video games competitively. Looking back, I think that was my first step into traveling — even if I didn’t realize it at the time.

When I turned 19 or 20, I decided to quit my formal studies and dedicate myself to travel.
To this day, I haven’t finished my Bachelor’s in Physics and Mechanical Engineering, but I am actively looking for opportunities to complete this goal, ideally in a Scandinavian country.

My lifestyle is nomadic, which means I don’t always have a stable base or the possibility to host. However, whenever I do have the chance to host, I do so wholeheartedly because I deeply understand how exhausting traveling can be, and how valuable a safe, calm space is for a traveler.

Over the past 8+ years, I’ve been traveling and volunteering throughout Europe and South America, gaining experience in areas like agriculture, construction, childcare, elderly care, and more.

Some of my dreams and goals:

Build boats and fish in the open sea.
Visit Trolltunga, Norway.
Understand myself better in order to understand others better.

Couchsurfing has taught me to appreciate the diversity of cultures, thoughts, and behaviors that make us unique — and rich — as a species.

My motivation is simple: to give, because in giving I find richness and joy in others' happiness.

CURRENT MISSION

Building stability in my life, getting out of debt, improving my work skills, and seeking a better quality of life abroad — both for myself and my dog, Ares.

I have no girlfriend, no kids, no wife, or any responsibilities of that nature, which gives me the flexibility to focus fully on personal growth and building a stable future for the two of us.

At the same time, I aim to make travelers’ journeys easier and more enjoyable by giving them a place to rest, recharge, and feel safe — a welcoming space where they can take a break before continuing their adventure.

PHILOSOPHY

Smile every day and be happy with yourself so that others can feel happy around you.
Never stop learning — you only grow old when you stop seeking knowledge.
Everyone has something valuable to share, so always listen and learn.
Strive to be whole: like the ancient Greeks, nurture both body and mind.

My four pillars:

Reading – to fill my mind with ideas and expand my thinking.
Writing – to organize those ideas and give them meaning.
Drawing – because art is a natural form of human expression.
Exercise – to maintain a healthy body and mind through outdoor activities and physical preparation. (ha, not so much now a days)

Love discussing science, astronomy, and philosophy.
Always open to learning anything new, especially about other cultures and ways of life.
