Overview
About Me
Back home in Lander. If you want to contact me on short notice, I don't have internet, so google my name and call me on my landline.
Though I am far from the fray, all Ukrainians, Afghan and other refugees are welcome at my home in Lander, and if they need a more permanent place, I also have an incomplete house in the Tetons, on the Idaho side on 5 acres.
I am as a general rule not accepting Americans anymore. If you can't accept a life that is not suburban, American you probably won't want to stay here. I have been stood up too many times for whatever reason, but the likely cause is I don't fit into some comfort zone that seems most Americans expect.
I am now listed as "accepting guests" with the caveat, that you should not expect anything short of a warm place and a bed for one or two nights and a flexible situation and nice sharing. Always longer is possible as, "life is what happens to you while you are busy planning it". Please contact early and leave a phone number so I can call back. I don't have a cell phone so you can't text me. Then you can call and I may be able to assist in some sort of accommodations. At least information on where to camp, etc.
ABOUT ME
Born in Panama toured Europe when I was 9 months old, lived on the East Coast and the West Coast during the 60's then moved back to Europe, (England/Danmark) for a couple of years, then to Wyoming where I have been based out of since 1973. I travel back to Europe and New Zealand/Aotearoa and Antarctica. No I am not a military brat, my father was a writer and he never nailed my feet to the floor. I am way into caving after having been a climbing teacher, pre-sport climbing, and have caved here in the States, Ukraine, New Zealand/Aotearoa, Mexico and Antarctica. I have been traveling and on my own since I was 17 and am not nationalistic. I have two places, the one here in Wyoming and 5 acres in the Idaho side of the Tetons that I have been building on since I started hand digging the foundation in 1981. I am a black and white fine art photographer and have been doing that since the 60's. The perfect life would be 4 months in the workshop creating art and functional things, 4 months in nature and 4 months traveling out of each year.
PHILOSOPHY
I have never needed to "know" what the meaning of life is, suffice to live it and learn and share. I figure that we all "know" but too often are distracted by all of the wonderful and not so, THINGS in life. Quiet and listen and it is all there for all of us. We know all that there is and yet it takes letting go to be with it.

I have been a couch surfer all of my life on the road and have now a place that I am happy to share with others. It is primitive but I am happy to share with others. I used to hitch hike all over North America, Europe, and New Zealand/Aotearoa.

Music, Movies, and Books
Jalan Crossland, Bonnie Raitt, The Sway Machinery, Talking Heads, Beatles, Sonny Terry, Bob Dylan, Carmina Burana, Love, Steve Winwood, Mark Knopfler, Dire Straights, Emmy Lou Harris. Otyken.
King of Hearts, Zorba the Greek, To Kill A Mockingbird, One flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Five Easy Pieces, (both movie and book for the all), Cool Hand Luke, Repo Man, The Man Who Fell To Earth, Lonesome Cowboys, Frøken Smillas Fornemmelse for Sne, Den Grøn Slagter, Adams Æbler.
The Bone People, Shogun, Sometimes a Great Notion.
I get totally into low action movies and then forget the details as they become relegated to my unconscious. Novels and lady singers and quality in all fields, though I am bad with names. All arts that take one inside to places that are more than what is overt in the piece of art.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Just one? Many amazing things have I done, most of them have been in the natural world. How about hitching the AlCan highway in September/October of 1973? Rapping out of the ceiling of a 200 foot deep room in a new section of a cave? Trying to bring down the topsails on a 120 foot Baltic Schooner in a storm on our way to Norway? Finding a snakes nest the size of a small car in the early spring above 8,000 feet in the mountains? Home birth.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have spent my life, for the last 35-45 years working in the trades with an eye for elegance and sustainable building in an aesthetic way. I have lots of experience in the traditional black and white photography field. I am a plumber/welder/arborist by trade as well as a rigger from many branches of the rigging world. I can always learn more and actively seek out learning in all the knowledge bases that I have and also new ones. The winter of '06 I learned to ice skate, fun! I am not a theoretical type learner, when I taught climbing and wilderness travel it was a total experiential kind of learning. Describe, demonstrate and do. I am sure I can learn about plenty of other things. Come share.
