About Me

ABOUT ME
I can be talkative. I am interested in many different things and know a little bit about a lot of things. I read a lot, am passionate about the things I believe in, but I am somewhat reserved in groups. I have traveled in Europe, Turkey and Central America and studied in Mexico and Guatamala.
My interests include amateur geology, American history of the south west, birding, hiking, biking, and photography.
My wife and I travel extensively in a 32' 5th wheel over much of the western U.S
l am married, have three daughters in their 40's, and retired from a lifetime in management in the computer industry.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy meeting people from other cultures and learning about their country, their culture, their impressions of the United States, and their experiences as they have travelled from one country to another.

Interests

Reading is a hobby and history (particularly mid-eighteenth to mid nineteenth century US) is a passion. Music, particularly classical, uplifts me, but I am drawn to many other kinds: some country, a lot of Latin, Spanish guitar, American banjo, Russian balalaika, massed bagpipes, the big band sound of the 40's and 50's, gypsy violins, US female vocalists from the 40's through the 60's to name a few. If I had the talent, I'd get up and dance to it all.
I like to travel. I'm a part time RVer and have traveled most of the 48 states by RV. I've been to Europe three times, traveling primarily by car so I could stop and go where and when I wanted to. Seeing the remains of historic cultures fascinates me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy classical music, particularly the Russian and Spanish composers but my music collection includes most of the great classical composers from the 1600's into the 1900's.
I have quite a few CD's of the 40's big bands and the 60's through the 80's vocalists

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Attending the military Tatoo at Edinburg Castle at night when the massed pipers marched out of the castle in the dark onto the parade ground in front of the castle, bagpipes playing. It raised the hair on the back of my neck.
During my college years, toured many of the pre-columbian ruins in Mexico in a 1948 converted Chevy van "camper", visiting ancient Aztec, Olmec, and Mayan ruins throughout Mexico. This was in 1956 before people "camped" in Mexico. It was one continuous adventure. It remained the high point of my life for several decades.
Looking down on Stonehenge on as you approach from Salisbury. It was smaller from a distance than I had expected, but the sense of antiquity, of foreverness, to me was palpable.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy meeting people from other cultures and having them share their knowledge and experiences .

What I Can Share with Hosts

Some knowledge of the early history of the U.S. and the development of the Western U.S. A little bit of insight into the American political scene. Visits to Yosemite National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, and the Sierra Mountains.
Corcoran is a farm community of about 12,000 population, primarily Hispanic in origin. Very large farms in this area grow cotton, peaches, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, olives, oranges, and many other grains and seed crops. There is also a very large dairy industry, much of it owned by people of Portuguese descent. Visits can be arranged if there is an interest.
