About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I love to travel and meet new people, currently I am in country number 48 on my list. As a design student I try to find the best places that my small budget can afford and won't make my bank manager cry. I love discovering new things and new ways of thinking

ABOUT ME

Hi there,
my name is Julia and I am a travel addict.
And the other stranger in all the picture is my better half Mat.
This hole thing was started as I was just a tiny glimmer in my mothers eyes. Well just before I was born they decided 'hey, let's move to Australia' so as I hit this world kicking and screaming my destiny was already set in stone.
My parents started country list (places we have been) and as the youngest in the Family and having spent most of my savings on living in London I am playing the 'keeping up with the Johnsons' Game. So far I have managed to visit 48 countries and I must say there is no better way to travel than to visit real people and not just the touristy places.
But enough about me, in recent times (12 years) I have found myself a boyfriend who I have managed to train into a travel addict, too. With 28 countries he is still new at this game. He's working on search engine optimization, but his true passion is business. He's an active toastmasters, who spends most of his free time learning about random stuff.
As you might be able to tell, we are kind of a package deal. We are quite tall but don't need much space.
Looking forward to meeting you sometime maybe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am easy going, love an adventure but can find my own entertainment. I prefer couchsurfing as there is no other way to see all the great places the locals know but tourists will never find.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new at couchsurfing in this sense.
Since leaving school I have travelled a lot but have stuck with people I know, staying at friends places and so on. But I am running out of places where I know people so am hoping I can find some new locations and friends.
So far this has lead us to highfiving manatees in Florida, getting lost with new CS friends in Bath and drinking cocktails with our hosts pet duck in Bermuda.

Interests

As a designer I am interested in all kinds of weird and wonderful things. I love trying out new things and rediscovering old ones.
I have dabbled with wind surfing, rock climbing, diving but nothing beats a simple swim or bike ride. I love to cook and bake but sadly have not had much time for this.I just finished my Masters degree in Design in London, which has taking up most of my time and cash (stupid student fees) but it's worth it as I get to meet so many amazing people. Since graduating I've been freelancing and enjoying my travel freedom.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Love Die Ärzte (a German punk band) but also have a dream of going to a Jack Johnson concert some day, so I struggle to categories my music taste.

Movies: I am a sucker for Disney and Pixar but will happily sit through the special extended edition of Lord of the Rings or bad taste.

Books: Watching the English and other Anthropology books are great, Three Bags full a sheep's thriller is one of my all time favourites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

with 48countries visited I have a long list of amazing things seen. I can find beauty in the simplest things and hope to find much more of it in the future.

Teach, Learn, Share

people say I have a great amount of (useless) information. (:
but if that's that what your after, I can also show you how to make some awesome cup cakes or how to get the best sanding finish on and model or furniture piece you are working on.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a good cook and can tell some nice stories, but Mat is the true story teller.
