About Me

In 2012, Julie from Kansas City, Missouri and Andrew from Warsaw, Indiana met while teaching English abroad in Germany. We found out that neither of us was very good at teaching, but in our spare time we started playing music together and decided that was pretty fun. When our contracts ended we agreed to hit the road full-time and see if we could make it as professional musicians. We're still having too much fun to quit. Our band is called The Matchsellers.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Right now we're using Couchsurfing to tour the country as a bluegrass duo, The Matchsellers. We haven't had our own place in years, and we're so grateful to the people who put us up and help us on our way to "livin the dream!" We couldn't do it without you guys.

Interests

We love our job! We get to travel the country, play music, meet weird, crazy, awesome people, and be our own bosses. Even when times get rough, it's better than just about anything else we could be doing. In our down time we like doing normal, mundane things that we don't always get to do on the road, like grocery shopping, cooking, washing dishes, etc. We also enjoy a good hike, a good book, a good cup of tea and a warm fire.

Music, Movies, and Books

We are deep in the bluegrass hole, but we've also been known to jam out to The Strokes, Andrew Bird, Bob Dylan, The Killers, and AC/DC

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in Maine
Toured the West Wing of the White House
Jammed with one of our bluegrass idols Michael Daves in NYC
Visited Sneedville, Tennessee, home of Jimmy Martin, the self-proclaimed King of Bluegrass

Teach, Learn, Share

If you play an instrument, we'd love to play some tunes with you! We can teach you more old hillbilly songs that you probably care to know. We're usually carrying along some drinks from breweries and distilleries we've played at, and we can make a mean twice-baked potato and broccoli salad.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We're low-maintenance guests-- travel with our own pillows and sleeping bags, clean up after ourselves, and help around the house if you need it (washing dishes, feeding pets, etc). We'd love to hang out but we can take care of ourselves if you're busy. We might even play you some music if you like!
