Join Couchsurfing to see Jurriaan’s full profile.
We are both curious and social persons, who can adjust to life everywhere. We always try to understand our surroundings, and never take things for granted. We both like to laugh a lot, and try to connect to people even if we have a language barrier.
For our work as reporters, we travel a lot. Jurriaan writes, Eline takes photos. This way we publish for Dutch and international media. The past few years of reporting have taken us to interesting places, where we always try to find the stories that are hidden underneath the surface of everyday life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Because I like the way people from all over the world can connect this way, which is way better than staying in a boring hotel room with clerks and cleaners slaving their way through the day. And there is no Lonely Planet book or any other that can give you the experiences at a place like when you are with a couchsurfer. They know the places to go to; the people to meet; the good food; the way the bus works; bikes to lend; etc.
Eline and I are very interested in culture and people. Travelling is a good way for us to meet a lot of people with different backgrounds, that helps us look at the world in a different way.
Music, Movies, and Books
Writers I like: Paul Auster, Chuck Palahniuck (Fight Club and Choke), Peter Verhelst (for his dreamlike poetry), Milan Kundera, Michel Houellebecq (when in a cynic mood), Hemingway (off course), Philip K. Dick (for his crazy imagination), Coetszee/V.S. Naipaul/Colin Thubron (for their travel writing) and a lot of other books.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Life itself left me awestruck. I enjoy every moment of it. So does Eline.
