About Me
Quick note to hosts: I sometimes travel as one person or two people. The request is accurate on this.
Hey, nice to meet you! I grew up in Singapore mostly and am working in Singapore at the moment. However, my parents migrated from Shanghai to here, and we've kept the Shanghainese traditions, so I've never really felt very "Singaporean" and consider myself only half of one.
I plan on being a digital nomad, and my partner, David (who is fully Singaporean), comes along with me sometimes. Currently experimenting with working and travelling together, so that I can do it for longer periods of time. I'm working remotely for a cryptocurrency startup right now.
If you host me (or both David and I), I would likely spend some part of the day working if it is a weekday before going out to see the town. I would also love to help out with any chores around the house. I can explore on my own and also with you, and aim to be a low-maintenance guest. If I send a request for one person, I'm the only one travelling, without David.
As for hosting others, if my calendar dates are blocked, they are blocked for a good reason, so only hit me up if you want to chat. I will not be able to host.
I used to study materials engineering in university and wanted to do research, but eventually did not pursue a job in the field because academia was not a good fit for me.
Besides travel and work, I'm also interested in making the world a better place and reducing climate change. I donate regularly to charity and am vegetarian (ish) because of the environmental impact. Still trying to figure out how I can reduce my carbon footprint when travelling.
In my free time I help organise some events in Singapore for volunteer groups I'm involved in. I also go for parkour and self defence classes. David goes bouldering a lot and I join him sometimes.
I don't have social media but I do have a LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/adventgineering
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Travelling is one of my (and my partner's) biggest passions. Travelling helps broaden our understanding of this diverse world, and we're always curious to learn about new countries and people.
But the best experiences still come from human connection. The people we meet make our trips special and memorable.
As for why we host - after having so many good experiences with other hosts, we want to pay it forward. Therefore, we would try our hardest to give you the best experience you can achieve when you visit our home.
Also, this way of travelling is less harmful for the planet than hotels. We can discuss more on this if you are interested!
Interests
I love the natural world and want to protect it. I believe we have limited resources and need to allocate them well.
I can play the piano, sing, draw, and write. But I don't know any piano pieces off the top of my head.
David plays many instruments and knows some pieces by heart.

Music, Movies, and Books
I find most things pretty great, so I like to say I like everything. However I'm very bad with horror movies - I get nightmares - and screamo music. David however enjoys horror movies.
Besides reading fiction, I also read manga and webtoons.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hiked in the Kathmandu hills and got bitten by leeches
Sky dived off the coast of Santa Clara, California
See the milky way and aurora on different nights
Performed in a standup comedy show
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach people about Singapore and Asia in general. If you are interested in experiencing life from the point of view of a local, do let us know.
If you are coming to Singapore for a layover (5.5 hours or more), the airport has some free tours you can check out - https://www.changiairport.com/en/airport-guide/facilities-and-services/free-singapore-tour.html
What I Can Share with Hosts
Meals, stories, laughter. Singapore is kind of an interesting place in terms of how it's set up. Could be fun for you to hear about! And our hosts get priority if they ever visit Singapore :D
Also, we believe in giving back, so if we cook together or go somewhere together, we can cover the costs of doing so. Also open to helping with rent and other costs of hosting us, and helping with prep too. Because let's face it, hosting has costs associated with it too (money, time, energy). As people who have both hosted and traveled, we know how it's like on either side.
Hosting just me: if we cook I will definitely help with prep if I'm around and also to clean up after. I can cook but I'm not a foodie, so the taste may be average 😂
Hosting both of us: if we cook, David's the better cook between the two of us, so he's more helpful in the kitchen haha.
