I live with my family in a small cabin and geodesic dome in the mountains of Southern Oregon, in between Grants Pass, OR and Crescent City, CA.

Our home is small and off-grid (currently no running water, compost toilet, limited electricity). Accommodations would be very basic -- we could pitch a tent for you, or you might enjoy our indoor hammock! -- but we love our home and lifestyle and, for some, it's ideal. The West Fork of the Illinois River borders our land and there is a small swimming hole during the summer.

We are a few miles from Highway 199 and would make a good stop if you're traveling between San Francisco and Portland/Seattle, and would like to take the (worthwhile) detour to the rocky and remote coast of Southern Oregon/Northern California.

My children are ages 13 and 8. We have one dog and five cats, if allergies are an issue. We generally don't eat meat but don't mind if you bring meat, although our refrigeration is basic-to-nonexistent. (We'd feed you, anyway, as long as you visited when we don't have to be away teaching all day).

Because of our limited indoor accommodations, it would be quite difficult to house couchsurfers during the cold and wet seasons. We are also very busy teaching school and parenting during the school year. For these reasons, summer and fall may be the only seasons in which I am able to host.
