I'm an optimist programmer with a deep commitment to the social sector. I use exclamation points a lot because they help convey the energy that I think is lost in the speech-to-text translation! I wear bright colors not because I hope people mistake me for gay all the time (which happens, all the time), but because I think colors are an underutilized option in most men's fashion vocabulary. I cook feverishly, but not necessarily frequently (which means I really enjoy it, but usually have other things I want to spend my time on), and I'm up for a sing-along whenever you are.

I love the concept of couch surfing. More than that, though, I love how the sharing economy represents an implementation of an open, socially-minded future, with more dimensions to it than GDP.

I admit, I'm not terribly picky about your reasons for couchsurfing. If you just want a place to crash, that's fine with me. I do expect reasonable human beings, though, and some attempt at a connection.

Intereses

I think the underlying dimension of all of my interests is systems. Cooking is a system, baking is a system, music is a system, politics is a system, programming is a system.... For me, one of the most fascinating pursuits in life is trying to reverse engineer the system that we humans are part of, but haven't explicitly created.

Música, películas y libros

I studied music, and in doing so discovered that I'm an infant hopelessly behind most of the people that I now respect for having good musical taste. I've got really good reasons for listening to what I listen to, but no reason beyond ignorance for not listening to this or that other artist or song. The top of the list right now is Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Héctor Lavoe, Ruben Blades, and Mercedes Sosa.

As for books, Cien Años de Soledad definitely takes the cake so far, but Catch 22 is a close second, or maybe even a tie for first.

I'm bad with movies.

Apply rules to your life.
Poetry is beautiful because the rules that define it cause us to say what we want to say in different, more provocative ways or even to say something we didn't even think of saying before; painting is beautiful because it's NOT a photo. Photography is beautiful because it LIMITS what you see. Your life can be a masterpiece with the right rules applied.

For example, I lived on $10 per day for 3 years (traveling). This meant sleeping in the rain NEXT TO the hotel I couldn't afford, going hungry for a day or two to catch up on my budget, and opening up to people I normally wouldn't have opened up to hoping that they'd let me in.

I also hitch hiked as a nearly exclusive mode of transit. This meant walking from town to town when there was no one to take me, getting water from the wells of some of the most lost and unheard-of farmers in Latin America, and finding my way into the lives of almost everyone who was willing to roll down the car window.

Rules will make your life beautiful.
