I grew up as an only child in Valdez, Alaska with two loving parents. We moved when I was ten years old, went to San Diego, California, bought a sailboat and sailed down the coast of Mexico for a year. I completed junior high and high school in Hemet, California. Then I attended California State University Stanislaus where I got my BA in Sociology with a Human Services concentration. After that I attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa and got My Masters in Social Work concentrating in Children and Families. I had a passion for working with youth, but also a passion for travel and different cultures and I wanted to combine them. This what made my decision to join the Peace Corps an easy one. I was in the Youth Development sector that focuses on helping and motivating youth to become leaders in their communities, and also aims to start and sustain projects within communities that benefit the youth directly. Since then I lived in Boston for 1.5 years and then moved to the big apple for a job as a Social Worker at a family shelter.

I sailed on a 42 ft sailboat for a year in Mexico with my parents. They home-schooled me everyday and I learned how to sail. This is my fondest memory growing up.
