PLEASE NOTE:

When you send me a request, please take a moment to introduce yourself and explain why you’d like to stay with me. Generic, copy-paste messages don’t work for me. Interaction is key—if you’re not interested in engaging with your host, my home isn’t the right fit for you. This isn’t a free Airbnb or Booking.com; it’s a shared experience. I find it awkward and uncomfortable when guests barely talk to me, avoid spending time together, or are constantly on their phones while staying under my roof. If that’s your style, a hotel might be a better option for you.

—————————————————————————

Hi, I’m Kama! I’m from Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago—a place where turquoise waters meet lush jungles, and every island feels like its own little world. For years, I worked as an interior architect, but in 2016, I decided to step off the expected path and chase something that felt more authentic to me. These days, I fill my time with the things that truly light me up: wandering through nature, losing myself in museums and art galleries, and diving into books that make me think and feel. Music is another passion of mine—whether it’s the elegance of classical, the soulfulness of jazz, or the energy of contemporary. But what I value most is connection—meeting new people, learning about their stories, and sharing experiences.

I live in Yogya in a 2-bedroom house with my six cats: Otis, Mylo, Puma, Fudge, Moby, and Hima. One of the rooms is my wardrobe, but if you’re a solo traveler, you’re welcome to stay in my room on a separate mattress or move it to another space if you prefer. My home is stocked with books you’re free to borrow, fast Wi-Fi, and two bathrooms (one with a sitting toilet and one with a squat toilet). I’m a non-smoker, so smoking isn’t allowed inside the house.

The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, yet conveniently located just 5 minutes from Adi Sucipto Airport. You can take an *ojek* (motorcycle taxi), regular taxi, or ride-hailing services like Gojek or Grab. If you’re feeling adventurous, it’s a 15-20 minute walk—I’ve done it myself! The train station is about 20 minutes away, and there’s also the affordable TransJogja bus system, which costs just Rp 3500 (about $0.30).

If it’s your first time in this part of the world, I’d be happy to help you plan your itinerary. I often have free time and would love to explore the area with you, sharing insights about the places we visit.

Looking forward to meeting thoughtful, curious travelers who are as excited about connection and adventure as I am! 🌿✨

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve always been fascinated by meeting new people 👫👭👬. Traveling has been a big part of my life, and I’ve explored my country quite extensively. Ever since I was 5, my family never stayed in one place for too long, so I’ve constantly had to adapt to new environments and get to know different people. There’s always been a part of me that craves discovering new things, places, and faces.

Although I only recently started using this platform, I truly believe it’s one of the best ways to connect with others and share experiences. I’m a great listener and love hearing people’s stories, so I’d be thrilled to hear about your journey!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Quentin Tarantino, Hayao Miyazaki, Akira Kurosawa, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Clint Eastwood, Peter Jackson, Tim Burton and Louis Malle.

Music: Pretty much any kind of music, from Bach to Alt-J. Louis Armstrong to Disclosure.

Books: I am a book nerd. I really enjoy reading books. Also have a lil library in my home, around a thousand or two. My reading ranges from science, literature, classic, fantasy, politics and social science.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

First off, I was born. Groundbreaking, I know. 😄 But on a more serious note, one of my early accomplishments was securing 6th place at the International Math Olympiad when I was 15. Math was my world back then, and it taught me the value of focus, logic, and perseverance.

Later, I took a leap of faith that changed everything. I left architecture, a field I’d dedicated years to, and pursued photography instead. At the time, it felt like a risky move, but it led me to places I never imagined. I was honored to be listed in *HuffPost* as one of the "Southeast Asian Photographers on Instagram You Should Follow" and featured in Shutterstock’s "60 Travel Bloggers and Photographers to Fuel Your Wanderlust." These milestones were both humbling and exhilarating.

This journey has taught me a few key lessons: Trust your instincts. Take calculated risks. And most importantly, don’t let fear of the unknown stop you from chasing what excites you. Regret often comes from the chances we didn’t take, not the ones we did. So, embrace the uncertainty, it might just lead you to something extraordinary. 📸✨

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Indonesian, also cook and bake.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’d love to share local insights, a few laughs, and some unforgettable experiences. I’m happy to show you around, whether it’s catching a breathtaking sunrise or sunset, exploring museums and ancient temples, hiking through scenic trails, visiting the Sultan’s Palace, or helping you try local delicacies that’ll tantalize your taste buds.

Beyond the sights, I’m all about connection. I’d love to exchange stories about our lives, our travels, and the things that matter to us. Most importantly, I want you to feel at home during your stay—like you’re not just passing through, but truly part of the journey. Let’s make some memories together! 🌅✨
