My name is Kane Shive, I'm 20 years old, and I was raised in an archetypal "small-town" in Pennsylvania called Nazareth. I experienced a fairly unique type of lifestyle for the majority of my years, and it seems to get more and more interesting and complex with every passing year. Parts of my unique life were absolutely amazing and awe-inspiring, while other parts were soul-shattering and heartbreaking. Throughout my relatively short time on this Earth, I have focused most of my energy and attention on the pursuit of happiness and the quest for knowledge of all sorts. Like I previously stated, I've seen more than enough darkness and pain in this world, so I quickly started to focus my life around spreading good energy and living with the most positive mindset that I possibly could. Everyone goes through varying levels of problems and insecurities on a personal level, and I haven't met anyone who enjoys having to suffer through those dark times, which is why I developed the positive, helpful mentality that I carry with me today. I love helping people through their struggles in any way possible and I have always lent out a helping hand whenever I could, even if I was hurting myself in the process. With time, I've gotten better at establishing my own self-worth and not letting people take advantage of me, which now allows me to help people out in a much truer sense than I used to when I was just a people-pleaser. I only try to see the good in life, I stay motivated and dedicated while pursuing my dreams, and I love spreading these ideals to everyone I meet. I can be happy sitting back reading a good novel, but I can be just as happy dancing to some loud tunes in a cool venue somewhere. I love music more than anything, I've been a DJ for 3 years, and I've recently started to produce my own tunes. I attend concerts and festivals whenever possible, I like to do/take a variety of drugs on occasion, and I also study Neuroscience at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. I promise you that I'm not some spun-out druggie though; I only got into that world because I liked the mind-opening capabilities of hallucinogens and the multitude of perspectives that they have given me over time. To prevent myself from continuing further and possibly writing a full-length Nicholas Sparks novel, I'll end this description by saying that I'm a happy guy with dreams, I love connecting with people on a personal level, and I'll never turn down a fun time :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hello fellow couchsurfers :) I'm from Northeastern Pennsylvania, and I just found out about this site/application's existence during my most recent "out-west" trip. Before then, I was completely oblivious to this amazing resource, and I wish I would have known about it much sooner! After meeting, learning from, and enjoying experiences with so many kind-hearted, genuine, and positive hosts along the way, I was forever grateful for stumbling upon this network. Simply, the main reason why I'm on Couchsurfing is to meet people who can show me new perspectives of this complex world we live in. I love to hear about people's experiences and life stories, so Couchsurfing fits very well with my personality!

Music: I'm pretty much a fan of all music, but my favorite genres would have to be Hip Hop, Alternative Rock, Indie, and anything Electronic (Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, ODESZA, GRiZ, Gramatik, etc.)

Movies: I Am Legend, The Pursuit of Happiness, documentaries of all sorts, The Breakfast Club, and any other cult classics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I took a spontaneous 2 week road trip with one of my college buddies from Pennsylvania all the way to California, we went to about 20 states in total, then ended the trip with a 2 night festival in Telluride, Colorado.
