About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Living aloha, sharing our experiences and exploring the world...one place at a time.

ABOUT ME

We are retired in our dream home on the Big Island of Hawaii. Then we lost it to Pele’s lava flow in 2018. We retired young enough to keep terrifically active and we love life. We love good food, wine, friends and generally good times. For both of us, we don't have a glass half empty or half full. Our glasses are overflowing!
What many visitors to Big Island don’t realize is that it truly is a big island. The best way to get around is to rent a vehicle. Hele-on, our bus system, is unreliable and won’t get you to the really cool places on the island. Pāhoa is about 45 minutes from Hilo, 3 hours from Kona.
One of newly learned skills is beekeeping. We have two active hives at the back side of our property. Hope you like honey!

PHILOSOPHY

Spread aloha. There is good in everyone. Enjoy life. Laugh often, love everyday, and share life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We mostly host. We are blessed to live in a place of paradise and are thrilled to share it with new friends from around the world.
Our hope is to get some couchsurfing in when we head out to Europe in a couple of years. Oh yes...and we will be heading back to Australia soon too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE:

We have been blessed with some wonderful couchsurfing experiences. Some of our guests have become dear friends and we stay in contact and even get to visit them when we get into their part of the world.

Interests

Seeing and experiencing people and places, archtecture (ancient through modern), waterfalls, beaches, mountains, fishing, swimming, snorkling, sailing, boating, sunsets and sunrises, hiking, golf, local produce and products, cooking, entertaining, card and board games, and we are willing to try just about anything.

Music, Movies, and Books

Jazz, Classical, rockabilly, pretty much everything except rap and hip-hop is what we listen to.
Historical novels, suspense, newspaper, history from everywhere, philisophical, the Bible. Open to anything!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a week in the suburbs of Tijuana, assisting with building homes for Esperanza. The love of the citizens was amazing. Learning from them the joys of life, when they have so little to begin with. Their hope is inspiring.
--------
Update - Amazing thing - completed 500 miles of walking El Camino de Santiago in October 2014. And we WILL be back.

Teach, Learn, Share

Dealing with the death of loved ones...I've learned from experience. Knowledge and experience in construction, cooking, energy resources, life.
If you are interested, it's fun to work in the kitchen together. My friends call me a 'gourmet' chef...I just think I have a good imagination and plenty of luck in the kitchen.
