About Me
I am a DIY person to the core. I love trying to make things, especially things that we never would think to make because it's a given that we just go out and buy it. Which is how I expanded my line of skincare products into making soaps. When I am not working on my business, I am working at a art and design university in N.Y, where I also graduate from with a degree in Jewelry Design. My husband Eddie and I love trying different types of food and recommending our favorite place to others. We are both starting to travel to new places and are really excited to have the opportunity to make this happen. Morocco and India are on my top five places I have wanted to visit since I was young. I am also originally from Jamaica, but moved to the U.S when I was 10. My husband Eddie is from Chicago and we met in Florida. :-)
I love nature and enjoy going to the farmers market in the summer. I am very much into sustainability and this is something that my grandmother taught me before this was a cool word. I currently have onion skins that I am collecting in my fridge to dye muslin bags and my husband and I compost our vegetable scraps. I look forward to owning land where I can grow my own food beyond my window sill herbs.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It's an opportunity to build relationship with people in new places and be able to afford to do more traveling. We have had people stay with us from places like China because they reach out to a friend of a friend of a friend before we knew about couch surfing. This is a great opportunity to open our homes to each other, share our cultures and be able to grow as individuals. I may not travel to all the places people who stay with me are from, but I will learn more about their culture by having them in my home.
Music, Movies, and Books
I have a very broad range of interest. My Pandora stay includes channels with flamenco music, Yuna (love her music), 90's r&b, contemporary christian and gospel music, musicals (love the sound track to Annie Get Your Gun and Flash Dance), Samba, afro Cuban jazz (can't wait to visit Brazil and Cuba, Jazz like Count Basie (I have a couple of his albums on vinyl as well), Mos Def, Japanese Folk songs, Bob Marley, and the list goes on. I like murder mysteries with a bit of humor in tv and book form. Nacho Libre is one of my favorite movie, which my husband Eddie makes fun of me for and his favorite is Shawshank Redemption. He likes to think that he is deeper than me. :-)
