About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Do something of great importance. :)

ABOUT ME

I'm editor at the Russian youth newspaper "Akzia" (www.akzia.ru), which is a newspaper for young people, quite unique in its field, and independent from the state or any financial structures - and that's no common thing in Russia. I'm editing the science page, and I actually insisted that we create such a section, because I think this is really important that people get to know about what's going on in science instead of acquiring quasi-scientific ideas...
After translating The War Hotel (see "One amazing thing I have done in my lifetime" :) ) I thought I should do something more. I want to study further in the areas of philosophy and psychology. I have always been interested in conflict resolution, but after reading this book I felt there are things that can really be done!
Sorry I talk more about work than about personal qualities - but probably I'm such a boring person :)))))))))

PHILOSOPHY

Once I was about 15, I understood there is no meaning of the existence, and there basically can't be one... So, as I didn't want to commit suicide at all, I just stopped thinking about it and decided that I should just do as many good things in my life as I can - and that would be my fake meaning of the existence. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

What I think is most important about services like CS is that you can learn more about other cultures and tell people about your oun culture. That's something that can't be overestimeted, especially in the era of globalisation and under threat of cultural misunderstandings that, unfortunately, are still present.
I have once participated in the international language cources in Trier, Germany, and it was then that I realised HOW important it is to meet people from all over the world. I realised how many prejudices I had had and how many things I just (shamefully!) hadn't known.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a kind of person who falls in love with things once and for all... I first read O. Henry when I was 12, so he's my favorite writer till now. I read Remarque when I was about 18, and he's my second favorite writer :))
I heard Pulp first when I was about 12, too - so I keep buying Jarvis Cocker's records and I'm always afraid time will come when he won't write anything new!.. %| :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Translating the book by a wonderful british psychologist and an amazing person, Arlene Audergon, - The War Hotel (www.warhotel.com). It is about how we all participate in violent conflicts by stayng "frozen" to them, not responding properly, letting them go on... It's also about how our best qualities such as love, loyalty, looking for the highest meaning of life can be manipulated into violent conflicts. What could help is raising awareness about these complex phychological dynamics, so that people don't let themselves be manipulated.
This work inspired me to research into these things myself, so I hope to become a post-graduate student this year!
