About Me

Hi! I'm Karla and I will be traveling with my friend, Bernarda, this summer. We are both Americans living in New York with hispanic backgrounds and both students in New York City. We met when we were 4, and have been close ever since (were on the left in the photo when we were little). Now, the opportunity to travel abroad has presented itself, as Bernarda will be studying in Copenhagen in August, and we wanted to take advantage of the accessibility of traveling within countries in Europe. Couch surfing would enable us to meet people that we normally would not meet if traveling more independently staying in hotels or airbnb. We are very open minded, accepting of other cultures and beliefs, and both very easy going and willing to try new things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The best part of traveling is exposing yourself to new cultures and experiences, which is hard to come across when in staying in a hotel and visiting only the top tourist attractions. Airbnb also provides you with a different approach, but still leaves you on your own, to find your own destinations and you end up spending time with your immediate group of travel buddies, usually. Hostels have opened my eyes to a new way of traveling, making it so much more enjoyable and real. Although, couch surfing will not only save me money, therefore allowing me to travel even more than we do now, but will also connect us with locals, and show us a new more authentic side to whatever country/city we're am in.

Music, Movies, and Books

Karla:
I mostly listen to country, pop, and latin pop, with a lit bit of everything else mixed in. I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beyonce.
My favorite movie of all time is "The Pursuit of Happyness" and all of "The Hunger Games" movies.
It is hard to narrow books down to a favorite, but I guess mine would be the Harry Potter series considering I have read it 7 times and plan on re-reading it again soon.

Bernarda:
I love listening to classic rock, psychedelic music, classical music, Bossa Nova, but I'm open to pretty much all music except country. My favorite artists are Tame Impala, The Growlers, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Beyonce, and Rihanna.
Some of my favorites are "Life of Pi", "Anna Karenina", "Spirited Away", "Amelie", "Silence of the Lambs" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".
My first two favorite books that come to mind are "The Bell Jar" and "The Kite Runner".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Karla:
I took part in a study abroad in Germany which was my first experience traveling to a new country with people I never met before, and had an amazing time. I learned German, and was able to make life-long friends as well as experience a new culture.

Bernarda:
Traveling has always been a part of my life ever since I was one years old going to meet my family in Argentina. I participated in a summer abroad when I was fifteen where I went to Ghana with a group, stayed with a host family, and volunteered. That trip really got me hooked to the feeling of traveling alone and experiencing that freedom of learning about a new reality that is totally new to me.
