Hi I am Karmina Aquino, from the Philippines. I moved to Zurich in August 2018 to do a PhD at ETH - Zurich. I am a geologist and I study rocks (but also water, and how they interact). Right now I am studying rocks from the ocean floor which is really cool because you get to go to the ocean to collect rocks and we send a robot down to do the sampling for us. I went September 2018 in the Atlantic ocean for 3 weeks. I am in general very patient with different kinds of people. I like reading, and learning and would like to teach someday. Some days I work really hard because I have to, but generally, I try to just relax at home and leave all the work at work. I also like hiking and being in the mountains, although I have to admit I haven't been to a lot of places in Switzerland yet. I'm definitely planning on changing that. I am not very sporty but I am willing to try all sorts of activities. Sometimes I run, not just away from my problems, but also to burn my beer belly. I don't smoke and I don't do drugs (yet? not really planning on it), and I like beer and other alcoholic drinks! I don't have a pet, a boyfriend, a car. I just have a city bike. I like singing and going to karaoke. I like Japanese food, and shrimp and rice, and corn and mangoes and strawberries and I eat meat. But I do respect what other people eat or not eat. I am happy to meet new people and make new friendships but I also equally enjoy being alone and with a book.
