关于我

I’m an easy-going girl who loves traveling and meeting new people. :) Haven't found another person with memory worse than mine, which makes me seem absent minded. It's a miracle I made it through 4 years of law school. Got a book outta the library once, on memory training. Studied it for months, then had to pack it in cos I forgot where I left the book. True story.

PHILOSOPHY: Screw the consequences, let's do this! Helping hands are better than praying lips.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Wouldn’t know which to choose!

Here are a few:

1) Hitchhiked over 1000 km from Kuching to Labuan (Borneo, Malaysia). Every single person (9 in total) who offered us a lift along the almost entirely one lane route which was mostly deserted, past small towns, and villages, and mostly forests, all told us the same thing- it ain't safe here, don't hitch hike. One of them was even armed, "illegal guns are easily accessible in Borneo", he said, "best not trust strangers." Camped by the side of the highway amongst thick forests in the sleepy town of Miri, Sarawak.

2) Spent a day wandering about the magnificent Lost City of Petra, Jordan.

3) Visited the Pyramids, almost being swept away by the winds.

4) Spent numerous nights camping in the Kemensah Forest of Ampang, Malaysia. Slept in a hammock over a river, bathed in the river, cooked over a fire, (without internet connection at all!) then made it back to civilization.

5) Befriended an street artist in Bangkok.
I was alone, walking towards my hotel, when I was followed by a group of 3 men who had clearly been following me for some time, as i recognised one of them from having seen his face some 2 hours ago. Couldn't head back to my hostel as they'd know where I stayed, and may have even followed me there! Told the random street artist of my predicament and his friends and him said they'd protect me. Ended up chatting quite a bit and talked about our cultures. Loved his work but had very little money with me, and we ended up playing rock, paper scissors to decide whose price to take for his work. Poor chap lost, and years later, three of his graffiti like pieces still hang in my hall, a reminder of that night. Grateful that what could have been a horrible night, ended well, thanks to the kind and friendly soul.

6) Was in a 'ping-pong' bar in Bangkok with my brother and a couple of friends. The ping-pong show was something we were curious about but within minutes, totally regretted it and were ready to leave. We were then slapped with a bill which was 10 times what was shown to us on the menu when we got there (1500 baht for a beer). When we refused to pay, they showed us a different menu, one with inflated figures. My brother was getting into quite a heated argument with the man who sat by the door, between us and freedom. My brother works out, you see, and I guess an occasion had never arisen that would put his brawn to the test. Earlier that night, I had asked that everyone to keep their money in various locations on one's person, so I confidently stepped up to the dude and opened my purse and said well this is all we got (inside it was 150 baht) so that's all i can pay you. In my other hand, I held the beer bottle upside down, ready to smash it into the counter and use as a weapon if needed. Everyone else opened up their wallets, all but my brother, who insisted it was 'a matter of principle'. Here we were, in a ping-pong bar in Bangkok, arguing about principles. My brother put 750 baht in his hand, and said this is the price you told us earlier, take it or leave it. The guy finally grabbed the notes and yelled '**** off and go back to Bangladesh and China!'. We refrained from correcting him and ran down the stairs, and out into the streets. When we had caught our breaths, I asked my brother to open up his wallet, where 40 baht (1 USD) was tucked. 😒
