About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn, learn, learn. Grow. Meet new people and become increasingly culturally sensitive. Become more independent and be able to count on myself. Most of all, though, my current mission is to keep having faith in myself, my friends, and this world.

ABOUT ME

I'm 20, I'm currently in Hungary, and my dream is to be able to travel freely, cheaply, and without reservations. I've been traveling around the area for about a month, and I went to Munich last weekend for the last couple days of Oktoberfest. Munich is absolutely beautiful. The people are also amazing--gotta love the Bavarians. I am a student at the University of South Dakota and my majors are German, International Studies, and Anthropology, so I am very interesetd in the world. I also know a little bit of Hungarian and am learning more all the time. I have a very international family and my parents have encouraged me to travel all my life, and studying abroad provided me the perfect opportunity to do so. I think gaining the experience of traveling is something everyone needs to do. I feel so much more open, genuine, and independent now that I've experienced traveling alone.

PHILOSOPHY

I have a few--the most prevalent probably being veganism (non-violence). I have been a vegetarian for five years and I am slowly integrating myself into the vegan lifestyle. It's a difficult process for me, but I firmly believe in it and would like to eventually eliminate all animal products from my diet. I believe that this is the best way to protect the earth and to encourage non-violence among all species of animals. Also, I believe in simplicity as the ultimate source of happiness--clutter (material as well as mental) always makes me feel crazy and out of control.

I would rather be ashes than dust!

I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot.

I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist.

I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them.

I shall use my time.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've been getting into Tom Robbins--I really enjoyed "Skinny Legs and All." I LOVE Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet." I like silly movies--Wayne's World being among my favorites. Disney movies are up there too. The Big Lebowski, Hair, The Graduate...many more, but I can never remember them all. As for music, I have really been into Au, The Concretes, Camera Obscura, Adem, Dr. Dog, Pheonix, recently.
