About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

"The world is big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark" - John Muir

I want to meet people and see places and learn things I wouldn't otherwise. Life is short. I want to learn as much as I can while I can.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I listen to just about every type of music out there, from weird stuff no one's ever heard of to top 40. My all time favorites are Kathleen Hanna, Dessa, Genesis, and Rachmaninoff. Recently I've gotten into Doomtree, Bjesovi, Mortal Kombat, Hamilton, Beyonce, Halestorm, Sia, Adam Meckler, Hendrix, Spose, SARS, Fort Minor, Elemental, Wolf Alice, Piano Guys . . . I love it all.

Books: It's hard to choose, but there are a few standouts: Adrift by Steven Callahan, Men we Reaped by Jesmyn Ward, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker, and Complications by Atul Gawande

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked the John Muir Trail (a 220 mi section of the Pacific Crest Trail in California) with my dad. Sometimes it was like walking through a dream land, other times all I could look at were my rain drenched boots and the muddy trail. Sometimes it was mind numbingly uniform scree, sometimes it was aching feet and burning lungs. But sometimes that feeling of child-like awe at the world would take over and I was grateful not just for the mountains and cliffs and waterfalls, but for my ability to be amazed by them. The world is a mess . Everyone's life is a mess. A pretty view from the top of a mountain isn't going to solve anything. I just don't want to forget how cool it is to be alive and curious.
