About Me
Hi, I'm Kate. I consider myself thoughtful, fun and energetic. I got a taste for longer term travel a few years ago when I took 5 months off to travel in the fall of 2015. It was pretty great, so I did it again in the fall of 2019, walking Camino Frances and visiting friends in Germany and France.
In between travel, I loved hosting people. It's such a fun way to meet people and hear about their travels.
I love good food, being active, good conversation and learning new things. I'm a curious person, and love exploring neighborhoods, local markets and coffee shops. I'm a bit of a nerd and love history and museums. Not so much a late night party person anymore though I do love good local live music.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love to meet new people. And I think one the best ways to get to know new places is by meeting locals. This seems like a great way to do that, and also be able to keep traveling affordable.
Interests
I like to play outside - cycling, xc skiing, ice skating, walking or hiking. I love exploring local coffeeshops, playing games with friends, and trips to the farmer's market. I like good beer, and cheap wine. I love old houses with lots of character. I like gardens. And trees.
I also love to travel and I'm finally making that more of a priority in my life.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I like a lot of different music but my favorite is anything I can sing along to. Right now my favorite Pandora stations are Pink Martini, Gillian Welch, Zac Brown Band, Black Keys, Florence and the Machine, and Cyndi Lauper - just depends on the day.
Movies: Love old movies like The Philadelphia Story. St. Elmo's Fire and The Breakfast Club. Love Actually. Elf
Books: Oh so many. I love the Harry Potter Series. I also have been on a historical fiction kick lately, and really enjoy Phillipa Gregory books. Also, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Hyperbole and a Half, The Giver.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hiking the Blue Mountains in Jamaica. We hiked up to a little coffee farm and hostel. It was insanely beautiful. The next day we hiked to the highest peak in Jamaica - we go there before the clouds rose but were there as they rose all around us. Then we hiked back down and bought some amazing coffee beans that had been roasted in a hand cranked roaster powered by kerosene.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love to learn about people and places. I'm good at riding a bike and can teach you about the sport of cyclocross. I can also do handstands and cartwheels if that if of any interest. At one point I was a pilates instructor though I'm not sure I'd be a very good teacher at this point. But I could try.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Good conversation. Stories from traveling. As I'll be packing light for a long term trip, I won't have much room to bring things along, but would share my true thanks, and a favorite treat from your own city.
