I am taking a wee break from work right now to travel around North America and have an adventure. I'm really outdoorsy, I love to hike more than anything, and my dream home would be a cabin in the woods surrounded by wildlife.

I have always loved hostel life, but sometimes the best places are not accompanied by a hostel. This limits my ability to spend time in more beautiful, more remote areas and from meeting local people and living life at their pace for a few days. I am very friendly and I love to meet new people while I travel - I find that often it's the people who make a trip into a true adventure, and so I guess I'm chasing that aspect of life on the road.

I love to read. My favourite writers include but are not limited to Richard Brautigan, Kurt Vonnegut, John Irving, John Kennedy Toole, Carson McCullers and Will Self.
I L O V E to listen to podcasts - my absolute favourite is Radiolab. I also like WTF with Marc Maron, and This American Life.
Recently my music tastes have been influenced by Mississippi Records; I love anything old and interesting from faraway places.
I love Joanna Newsom, Smog (& Bill Callahan), Yo La Tengo, Beat Happening, Pavement, Sufjan Stevens, Silver Jews, Animal Collective, Neutral Milk Hotel, Lambchop, Arthur Russell, Kate Bush, Talking Heads, Kim Jung Mi. 1960s girl groups. Old Indian pop music. African music from the 80s. Anything from 1960s England like The Zombies, The Kinks, The Yellow Balloon. 1970s North American stuff like Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Love, Fleetwood Mac, The Velvet Underground. I love Scandinavian music like Mum, Sigur Ros, Mew, Nalle, anything on Fonal Records or The Leaf Label.
Recently I've been really getting into Devo. I like Devo a lot.
I like comics too, mostly independent or small press stuff, or underground comix. My favourites include Robert Crumb, Anders Nilsen, Harvey Pekar's American Splendor, Chester Brown, Justin Green, Seth, Charles Burns (more the early stuff), and Chris Ware who I think is a genius.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Once while travelling alone in Finland I rented a row boat and rowed for hours (on a lake so huge it had its own tide) to a little, tiny island where I set up my tent and was the only person there for two days and two nights.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I am always ready to learn. As for teaching, I am always ready to share what I've learned about cooking. I have worked as a chef in many different places over the years so I can try to pass the torch a little. I love music, I am always on the lookout for new music, or old stuff I never heard of. I guess one good thing about this exchange is that we can both learn how to be open with a relative stranger, and that's a very intriguing concept in this world we live in.

I love to talk and tell stories. I love to talk about travel, all of the experiences I have been lucky enough to have been through, and some funny unfortunate ones too. But mostly I LOVE to learn about places I've never been and gain inspiration from other people's travel stories.
