ABOUT ME

My name is Katy. Hello! I want to travel everywhere and see everything, and meet as many people along the way as I can. I am an eternal optimist. I think every day is a chance for an adventure. I am so happy to be alive and on a planet as beautiful and interesting as Earth. I always believe there is more to be seen and more to be done and that thought alone gives me things to look forward to. I can get along with almost anyone.

PHILOSOPHY

Why, I am so glad you asked! I believe that each person is responsible for their own happiness (or otherwise) in life. We've got what we've got... the people and things in our lives, and we choose what we do with it. Letting someone else bring you down is giving them power over you. I don't like it when people complain about things they can change. I believe happiness is a conscious decision that must be made every day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't really done much CouchSurfing, but I found out about it through The Frugal Traveler blog on The New York Times. I've never done any travelling with it. Recently, however, I was talking with a friend from the Czech Republic who told me about his CouchSurfing experience and travelling, and it inspired me to get back on and see what was up! The more I meet people who have CouchSurfed, the more I want to try it, especially when someday, I set out on my grand adventure around the world.

Interests

I love all people until they give a really really good reason not to. I love to play Ultimate Frisbee. I play on a college competitive team, and it is a great way to meet people and to stay active.I love to go camping. I once slept in a tent in my backyard for an entire summer. I love to hike and explore in nature.I really enjoy food. In university I have studied food science and international studies.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a huge Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan. I also love Doctor Who, and most things SciFi. I will read just about anything put in front of me. I like almost any chill music, especially folksy type stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Perseid Meteor Shower in 2010 in the Adirondack Mountains was like watching balls of fire stream across the sky. Fantastic.

Kiswahili! I can speak Kiswahili. How exciting! I can make a multitude of crafts and DIY, from t-shirt yarn knitting and crochet to putting tassels and glitter on everything. I also love to cook and I love to learn to make things.
