About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To learn how to say: 'I'm a cool Canadian girl' in every language. (There are over 6900 languages out there!)

ABOUT ME

My name is Kate, and I am a nice Canadian gal with a Ukrainian and Irish background. Next year I will finish my degree in Chemical Engineering back home in Canada. I am interested in environmental technology development, and since Europe leads the way in this area, I thought it would be the best place for me to spend some time! So I moved to France. I have already learned and experienced a lot, it has been more than I'd hoped!

I really like being spontanious. I am a type 1 diabetic, which is a bit of a stumbling block in this regard.. but with a little preparation I think I've managed well, and have been able to take off to some pretty cool places, free of worry!

PHILOSOPHY

Music is the universal language. I truly believe this ever since I came to Europe! I recently went to an Armin Van Buuren concern in Belgium, and had the most confused French/English conversation with someone from Paris. We finally gave up trying to speak, and just rocked out together to the music!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first couch surfing experience took place my very first night in Europe. I didn't even realize at the time that there was a name for it (couch surfing!). One of my good friends let me surf her floor (and bed when she went to work). Had a great sleep, and got rid of all that jet lag!

We're hoping to stay with someone in London next week! I am really excited and will be sure to share this experience.

Interests

I play the guitar and I am sort-of in a band, although we really only get together for a show once a year. I am too nervous to play in front of people, so I really do play for my own enjoyment. I have a set of drums too, unfortunately I couldn't bring those to Europe with me..

What else. I love motorcycles. This has definitely made me feel at home in France, since every young person seems to have one. Next summer if I am back home in Canada, I'd like to built a kit-motorcycle, or a kit-car. Maybe one of you can come visit me and see it..!

I also play rugby. So if I haven't got all of my frustrations out on my drums, then I tackle that much harder during our games..!

I snowboard in the winter in Canada, and would like to take a tricks course to learn some Rock-n-Roll Grinds and Alley Oops! I would like to someday 'sandboard', maybe in Peru, I'm sure I'd like the warm weather!

It's the little things that count. We're all people, and we all appreciate those little things that people do for us to show they care. Buying a friend a 'pain du chocolate' in France.. I've learned that really means a lot!
