One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- The very first time I stood at the edge of the Pacific ocean. A 3 1/2 hour trip in the car, a 20 minute hike, and there I was on an absolutely deserted beach standing ankle deep in cold water that went on for eternity.
- Stepping off the plane in Osaka-Itami International Airport. It was my first trip abroad (and away from my family) and it suddenly hit me at the baggage carousal how very very big the world is and how very very far from home I could be.
- Watching a first grader struggle through a short children's book all by himself for the first time. It has absolutely nothing to do with traveling but teaching a kid to read is one of the great miracles in life and I'm proud to get to do it every day.
