Hello! I'm Katya, 22 years old, born in Victoria, Canada, and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. My parents are from Belarus and Bulgaria. I’m currently doing an exchange year in Shanghai, China. I study architecture and urban design, and I really enjoy it! I would describe myself as a kind, outgoing, passionate, honest and creative person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is a brilliant way to meet new friends while helping each other, or being helped, to travel on a budget. I want to connect with people over meaningful conversations, or lets face it - just grab a beer together. Being shown around by a local is always the best way to experience a city. As a future architect I obviously am amazed by cities and yes I will obsess over houses for hours.

Interests

Most of my time is dedicated to architecture studies and training brasilian juijitsu, which I'm completely obsessed with. I train for fun, confidence, strenght and health but also compete on an amateur level.

My interest for architecture grew from my interest for drawing and art. I also like writing, photograthy, dancing, singing, playing the guitar and piano (poorly) and I occationally write songs I hope to have the courage to share some day.

Traveling is a huge interest. Now that I’m in China for a year I attempt to see, learn and experience as much as possible.

Music, Movies, and Books

🎼 I have a varied taste in music, but perhaps listen mostly to hiphop. My favorite song is American Tune by Simon and Garfunkel.

🎬 If you enjoy beautiful art films I deeply recommend Blow up by Michelangelo Antonioni and Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard.

Currently not watching any series because internet in China is too damn slow. My all time favorites are South Park, Desperate Housewives, Prison Break and Orange Is the New Black.
