About Me

I'm an independent 18 year old from France. I grew up in an international school so I am very open minded and want to learn as much as possible about other people's cultures and lives, because that is the only way to truly experience the world!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hostels are cool, but you tend to meet the same kind of people, who come from similar places as you. I want to be able to experience what life is like in the country that I am staying in, and what better way than to stay with the locals? When people I know come to France, they either leave saying that it was pretty but that a lot of French people are "impoli", or they leave wanting to learn the language sometimes even wanting to live in the country of love, philosophy and debate. The difference between these two opinions usually comes down to wether or not they actually went out for coffee or wine with French people. Yes we can be rude, but when you're in with us frenchies you'll have a lot of fun.
I want to be able to experience the same thing, and not just stick to what the tour guides tell me to do, and see the beauty of how different cultures interact.

Interests

I have many interests, but here are the main ones:
Music: I am a singer back at home and I play the piano, and I love nothing better than to spend an evening singing my heart out and learning new songs on the piano. I am also learning the guitar, a slightly more transportable instrument!
Cooking: I seriously LOVE to cook. I would rather stay in a cook a four course meal than go out for dinner. My favourite cuisine is pan asian, but I am open to anything, as trying new flavours can help me to incorporate them into my own recipes!
History and culture: My favourite subject at school was history, so teach me about yours. I wish the french history program had been a little less centred around Europe! I love visiting museums, art galleries and monuments, especially if someone can give me a brief lesson on it while I'm there.
Languages: I hate going to a place and not being able to communicate. That is why one of my major goals in life is to be an outstanding polyglot. If you teach me your language, I can teach you mine!

Music, Movies, and Books

I can not tell you a favourite music. There are too many genres that are great and so different that I simply can't pick a favourite. I am however, inclined to listen to the great classics of rock, and as a jazz singer I listen to that quite a bit too! I also loooove old french classics like Piaf and Brel, which I can translate for you (really worth translating!). More and more these days I find myself turning the radio on to classic FM, because there is nothing more beautiful than a classical concerto.

Books: I love a large array of books. I have read a few in my lifetime, but these are the ones that stood out the most: The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald, Wild Swans by Jung Chang, the Narrow Road to the Deep North by Flanagan, Guns Germs & Steel by Diamond, A Memory of Love by Aminatta Forna, Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, L'etranger de Camus.... I'm realising now that this list is ridiculous and it would just be impossible to list all the books I love, so hopefully that can give you a jist!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-I once got stranded in the desert in Dubai for three hours by driving the June buggy on to a sand dune and effectively parking it there undeterminably.
-I was knocked out by a giraffe.
-I once discovered the meaning of life, but forgot to write it down.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to teach you any of the languages I know, as well as any culinary skills you may want from me! I'd love to learn your language too!

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you want to know about French culture, I have many stories to tell. I can also tell you about a couple of interesting places I've visited. Unfortunately as an 18 year old, you may have more to share with me than me with you!
