About Me

ABOUT ME

I am in Mexico right now and soon will be in Guatemala to improve my Spanish and learn about these countries and things going on there.

Then I am planning to return to the UK next year to do a MA at Goldsmith’s University in Applied Anthropology and Community Development. This is also the area I am hoping to work and so am using my time here to see and learn from similar things going on in Mexico and Guatemala. I finished my anthropology degree over a year ago and then spent the last year back in Manchester working in a specialist school for children with autism and doing various bits of volunteering in the area of work I want to work in.

So that is what I am doing right now and hopefully you can learn more about me in the other sections and IN REAL LIFE! I am quite a nice person even if I say it myself so hopefully we'll get on.

PHILOSOPHY

Stay open, reflective and critical. Social, cultural and economic inequality is bad. Without humour what is the point? People are people like you. Happily agnostic.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am travelling. Time will only tell if I will have couchspace where I live next.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have just signed up to couch surfing but I have been a member of another hosting organisation called Servas all my life as my mum is a host in Manchester so I always had people from all around the world staying with us as I was growing up. And I have travelled staying in Servas people's houses in Germany, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Mexico and the USA. I have a lot of good memories from that and now I look forward to meeting some couchsurfing people as well.

Interests

Music, reading, hiking, politics (particularly on the social/cultural manifestations), writing, laughing, talking, swimming, cycling, anthropology, food, mountains, coast, cities, lakes, getting to know new places and people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music- too much and I can get carried away listing this but but absolute favourites are probably Joanna Newsom, Bob Dylan, PJ Harvey, Bill Callahan/Smog, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Drake, Tim Buckley, Kanye West, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Alasdair Roberts, Prince, Fiona Apple, The Weeknd, Jefferson Airplane, Love, Cassie, Damian Marley, Camera Obscura and I generally enjoy atmospheric music, traditional english ballads, hip hop, folk, rnb, pop. I do not like music snobbery and the most important thing is you enjoy what you listen. Which isn't to say there isn't some music I don't like.

Books: Jane Eyre-Charlotte Bronte, Wuthering Heights Emily Bronte, Pedro Paramo - Juan Rulfo, One Hundred Years of Solitude- Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Catcher In The Rye- J.D. Salinger, The God of Small Things- Arundhati Roy, White Teeth- Zadie Smith, The Tin Drum - Gunter Grass, Beloved - Toni Morrison, Harry Potter- JK Rowling

Some of the films I like are Fish Tank, The Sea Inside/Mar adentro, The Motorcycle Diaries/Diarios de motocicleta, The Spirit of the Beehive/El Espiritu de la Colmena, Eagle vs Shark, Superbad, all the Harry Potters.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am qualified to teach English. I know a fair bit about my country and my part of the country and have some opinions about that which I can tell. I love cooking and can share some vegetarian recipes and always enjoy cooking with people and trying new foods (as long as they are not meat) and if you're busy I like cooking alone too so can make us a nice meal.
