About Me

I grew up in Chicago and have studied and worked in various social justice efforts through projects of reformation and rehabilitation. Despite the overwhelming amount of work in this field in my home city and country, my constant need for movement & change and my fascination with new people, places, and experiences has brought me abroad (semi)permanently. I work teaching English, but I find most of my time is spent learning.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Last summer some couchsurfers saved me from a travel mishap; now I have moved to Germany and am living in the flat that took me in when I was stranded in the train station. The world is crazy and beautiful and oh so connected, and I think Couchsurfing is a great facilitator of these energies and experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy nearly all music but I especially like oldies, Motown and folk in particular, along with 90’s-2000’s hip hop and R&B. One of my favorite movies is One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. I have recently been enjoying reading books about the DDR, and books written by comedians (not together; although I would be interested to see what that combination of author & topic would look like...)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One time I successfully cooked a soft boiled egg
(Just kidding....but seriously; of all the things I can cook, I don’t know how this simple task still proves difficult for me)

Jokes aside, probably the time traveling that lead up to my visit to Germany last summer that brought me back here permanently. I graduated from university, attended my mom‘s graduation, then took off indefinitely with a friend and a minivan, where we lived for two months, mostly on the west coast of America. We went through 15 states, over half of them first time visits for me. He taught me how to surf and mountain bike, which were both somewhat difficult and scary for me given the conditions he would pick...I might have cried a little, but these ended up being some of my favorite parts of the trip, perfect examples of regularly finding out that I was capable of far more than I imagined. These travels culminated in our trip to Europe, that landed me in Leipzig, Germany accidentally...that’s probably the most amazing part, actually, what I described in the section below about why I’m on Couchsurfing
