ABOUT ME

Hi there! My name is Katie. I live in Alaska most of the year, but travel pretty often for my job. Really easy going, and easy to get along with (so people tell me), and love being around people of all ages, 0-99. I'm an aunt, so like to play around with kiddos, but I'm capable of having an interesting and nice conversation with everyone. I love to be outside--swimming, hiking, running, biking...you name it, I love it. I also love to cook---I don't often get to for about 6 months a year, but when I have a kitchen, it's where I end up spending most of my evenings. I play guitar (poorly) and ukulele (even more poorly), and love to sing--I always have some kind of song in my head.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on here because...well, why not? I travel often, but would rather meet people in a house than in a bar. And if you're on here too, you probably travel often, and if you ever come to my neck of the woods (wherever it may be), you would also have a place to crash.

Music, Movies, and Books

Folk, bluegrass, indie, hip-hop...pretty much most things under the sun. Favorites will always be: Josh Ritter, Built to Spill, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Gillian Welsh, Neko Case, John Prine, crappy pop music from 5 years ago, Head and the Heart, Hayes Carll anything that I can dance to, basically.

Books- I love reading, but things are hit or miss with me. Currently reading The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay and Wild Things in Wild Places by David Quammen. Big fan of Timothy Egan, Terry Tempest Williams, Wendel Berry, and Kathleen Dean Moore.

I like movies, I just sometimes fall asleep during them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Taught my awesome nephews how to climb trees. Found some lost swimming holes in Puerto Rico, and snorkeled with the best of them in the Caribbean...Stomped some grapes with my feet, fly in helicopters over epic glaciers, sat on an iceberg.....
