ABOUT ME

First and foremost, I love to learn. I have a huge passion for learning and I would love to learn a new language or skill. Want to show me how to play a crazy instrument or pass on some language skills? I'm so there. I am creative, I read a lot, I am a very clean person, I am also very laid back. I'm a bit of a night owl, but a quiet one if need be. I also love meeting new people and having great conversations. I also believe in complete acceptance of who somebody is as a person. It's nobody's responsibility to tell you how to live your life.

PHILOSOPHY

I live my life to have fun. I know that sounds possibly over-simplified or boring but I feel like the point of life is to do whatever makes you happy for the duration of the time you have. What makes me happy is learning and having new stories to tell.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I suppose a few big goals of mine I hope to accomplish on this site are to number 1, make some badass new friends and hear their stories. As a writer, I can never hear enough good stories. Number 2, show people that not everyone from Texas is what you hear/see on the news (certain d-bags have unfortunately made the world think we're a bunch of ignorant and oppressive hicks that don't know our head from our ass, pardon my language). Number 3, gain new insights and knowledge. I have no greater passion in life than learning new things. Whether it be skills or languages, I love to use new areas of my brain. Number 4, I want to make some new stories of my own. Memories and experiences are what build us as people and I want to make more of them.
I haven't yet participated in CouchSurfing, but I'm really excited for the experience! Currently I can't host as I'm working too much and am about to do some traveling myself, but I hope to be able to host someday soon!

Interests

Learning everything I can. Also, I read quite a bit. I have cats, their antics amuse me greatly, except when they steal my mail and destroy it. I love movies and music, but who doesn't? I would love to gain some new interests, I feel like that's what traveling is for!

Music, Movies, and Books

The Beatles are my favorite band, with Crash Kings coming in second. As for movies I love the classics (Casablanca, Sabrina, etc.), but I also think that Hot Tub Time Machine is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and have a small Disney and Studio Ghibli movie obsession. I'm all over the place when it comes to movies. As for books, my favorite book ever is The Great Gatsby, (still haven't seen the movie though, bad Katie).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I try to find something to be excited about and that I think is amazing everyday. That's the point of living.
One amazing experience that I always vividly recall is camping on a riverbank with a huge group of friends way out in the country in the middle of nowhere. There was no one but us for miles and the moon and stars were so clear that despite being the middle of the night, the sky was bright and the moonlight reflected onto the river. We cooked and played music and talked and drank and had fun until the sun came up.
The only experience that blew me away more was camping in Big Bend, way out in West Texas in the mountains. When we arrived it was the middle of the night and the moon was barely a sliver, it was extremely dark and you couldn't even see your hand in front of your face. Using a few flashlights, we set up our tents and went to sleep. In the morning we woke up and when we came out of the tent we saw the mountains all around us for the first time. It was breathtaking to be in the the middle of this huge valley, surrounding by gigantic mountains and a clear blue sky. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn anything and everything. I love languages and learning new customs. I am very good at reading and writing French, my listening and speaking skills could use some more practice as I haven't been able to use them much! I just recently started to learn Italian, but I'm not very good at it yet. I would love to learn a new instrument or how to cook a dish that is your speciality. I'm not personally the best cook overall but there are a few dishes that I can make very well. I make pretty good pancakes, chicken curry, lasagna, and am currently trying to nail my mom's enchiladas. Yum.
