À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

To be a sponge - I'm looking to soak it all in.

ABOUT ME

I come from a suburb outside of Detroit, Michigan. When I was a kid I wanted to be a teacher, then a ballerina, then a journalist, then to work in international development. I've spent the last three years working at a Cape Town-based education non-profit. In my free time, I like running, cycling, playing ultimate frisbee, hiking, cooking and baking, and spending time with my fiancé and friends.

PHILOSOPHY

Make my world a little bit bigger every day, and give back in some way for all the things I've been given.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment, we live in a small house, and share the small common space space with housemates, so unfortunately there isn't space to host a couchsurfer.

I am be happy to give advice to anyone who's coming to visit Cape Town, especially someone who wants to try playing some ultimate frisbee while he or she's in town.

I'm also happy to give advice to anyone heading to London; Brighton, UK; Amherst, Massachusetts or Detroit, Michigan.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I tried couchsurfing for the first time when I was heading to Tanzania alone. Possibly not the smartest, safest thing I've ever done, but it turned out to be an amazing experience - the kind you can only have when couchsurfing! A friend joined me a day later, and our host Denis showed us parts of Dar Es Salaam we never would've seen alone and accompanied us to Moshi, at the foot of Kilimanjaro. More recently, I've couchsurfed in Edinburgh, where I received great cycling recommendations and learned about Scotland's green transport policy from the wonderful Kirsty, and Barcelona.

Centres d'intérêt

Riding my bike, running, travelling, cooking, baking, writing, knitting, anthropology, dancing (ballet and otherwise), history and culture, finding out what you think about politics, being spontaneous, waking up early, staying up late...

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Helped run a camp about journalism, environmentalism and teamwork for high school students in a South African township.

Also, an alpha male baboon once dropped through my bedroom window when I was naked...more frightening than amazing.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

What can I teach? I bake killer cookies and drop-dead cheesecake, and am happy to make them for you if you host me! I can also teach you to knit.

What do I want to learn? I want to improve my Spanish and Xhosa, and I always love to learn how to cook something new!
